Thats a great looking rig...looks like a great shooter also...Cole has put together some real nice rifles..a real craftsman...shows he pays attention to detail...I am glad i was stirrd by a few to have him do my build...between this and the ones he did for guy ..top notch....
Doggzoe you have a fine rifle there...classy looking...you got a nice piece of wood also..very uniform..
enjoy it....
Cole you need to get the barrels laser etched with cMC custom rifles and the birth date on them...I may have it done to mine when I recieve it...gunsmith near me does it....

Very nice rifle! I was starting to get worries I may not see a range report from that one, now I know it's on the way. I don't know how it will do with sabots, I wasn't aware of your ambitions with them but I wish you luck! I can promise you that shilen will be a shooter sabotless as all the others I've shot have been exceptional. You did well finishing the job, congrats!!

I was just telling panhandle that we really haven't seen very many range reports from any of the shillen builds out there and it would be nice to see some. Looking forward to some range reports myself from the shillen builds! Very nice looking rifle and can't wait to see some range reports!

Thanks for the encouraging comments. I am starting out with sabots to get the feel of the gun and get her settled in. I am used to shooting Encores which I have grown to love,so this will be a little different and I don't want to waste a lot of time and money forming bullets at this time. Thinking of a vacation day/range day around Memorial day to fire it up. Also I have a brand new Match Grade barrel that hasn't had a fire lite in it yet. I have some catching up to do.
The gun weighs in at an even 12#

I think we will see some impressive groups out of the Shilens that are arriving, I think it's another great option for us now that Cole is getting them in, I believe we will see Shilen groups that rival everything else out there. Look back at Dave W's groups from his Shilen, it was a shooter and for a long time. I also can't wait to see some Shilen range reports but I fully expect we will see some darn good ones. I'm already eyeballing a Shilen up for next year's project. JMO's

Dajevou' I don't know how to spell French and neither does spell check! But you get the point!...........Just like mine Good choice Doggzoe! I also like the way the Tacticool fits me better than the thumbhole. It seemed I always had to stretch my trigger finger to reach the trigger.........Not so with this new stock. Good luck with it. Dimension wise, I think the Shilen (I got from Cole) is pretty close to the Brux (bore dimensions). Richard

Very nice looking gun. Bet it will shoot great as well. I have that same scope on mine and have to say, for the money, hard to beat it. Been holding zero through some serious recoil. I had it on my other gun prior to this one as well. Good luck with your new build.

Richard +1!The Tacticool/ProVarmint stocks are very comfortable to hold as well as shoot. Doggzoe, hopefully you won't have too much of a supply of saboted bullets in stock before trying formed bullets. The only advantage of sabots is less recoil. You'll not miss the cooling period wait times and/or cooling rods, cleaning the plastic out of the barrel....yadda, yadda, yadda!

I am sure you will like the Shilen. I just shot another new gun I built this morning. Rem ML action my bolt and plug design and Body's Pro Varmint stock. really like the Pro varmint and the Sendero taper. Since your using a muzzle brake. It will be a lot easier to use a smooth die. I have 5 barrels 4 Shilen and 1 Douglas and they all shoot extremely well using a smooth bore riding bullet.
My go to load for all these barrels has been 73 grs of IMR 4198 and a 250gr Hornady SST sized to fit the barrel correctly. Ialso use a thick wonder wad . You know you can make a very good sizing die out of a 6mm rem die or a 257 Roberts sizing die. that's all I use.
The whole purpose of building a 45cal with a muzzle brake is to shoot it without using a sabot. All the Shilen barrels I have checked need a bullet to be sized down to .44935 or if you have a looser barrel it will be measure .44965. If it was lapped it could be larger I don't buy lapped barrels for muzzleloaders .
Have fun shooting your new gun.

The sizing of bullets will be in the works. Just ordered some test packs from Arrowhead In the 250 and 275gr and some wads and lube. Slow but sure slow but sure.

Take that rifle out and shoot it...lol...I have the same build being done...would love to see what she can do...many years ago when I shot metal silouetts with a hand gun at the club I would watch the benchrest shooters and most had Shilen or Douglas barrels and they were shooting 1 holers or a little bigger...so I hope your rifle is the same...lol... I really like the set up you have ...

My Shilen shot sabots and sabotless pretty well, sabotless better. That barrel had a preference for the 200 XTP and 195BX over the 200 SST.

Dave Sounds good. I got a about 150 200gr xtps and a few 195s. I'm going to start with them. What kinda powder charge were you using? I've got some 4759, imr4198, 2015, 748, 5744 and vv120.

This was the last target I shot with sabots out of my Shilen. 11/49.5 N110/H322, distance was 200yds. Blew a sabot on the 3rd shot with the 195BX but that was before Barnes changed their bullets and went to a more squared off base like the XTPs, alleviating the sabot blowing issues. Think 56gr H4198 was a good load with the 200 XTP with that barrel also. Lots of guys have went to Savageshooters 10/50 4759/H4198 duplex, came along after I went sabotless, but seems to be a favorite and not temp sensitive. Tar12 had a good N120 load but I have never shot that powder. Someone here surely knows the load or you could PM Tar12. I had to knurl the Barnes or they would not shoot for me. Your mileage may vary.

Got to take out the ShilRem yesterday. Had a pretty decent first outing at a 100yds. Load was 10/50 4759-4198 200xtp HBS. Lower shot on target was first shot before scope adjustment. The shot about 1/2 inch high left I jerked the trigger or I might have had a really good group. My 200yd shooting was an other story. The high left shot felt good so I don't know what I did there. Over all I am very happy with the Shilen. I think I'll keep it.

I've always wanted to try Blackhorn after watching Bestill shoot at the Kentucky challenge I was impressed to say the least and after picking his brain I decided to buy some and give it a try.
