Ive had this Ruger 454 Super Red Hawk for two years now and last night I decided to load up some full power loads using Win 296 and Lil Gun with 240 XTP Mags. I loaded 6 rounds of each powder. I have a set of replacement grips, Hogue Tamers and let me say these loads will ROCK YOUR WORLD....!!! Speed was around 2000 FPS and pretty accurate but a little on the ...Ouch! side for me. My main whitetail deer load is 250 XTP, 19.0 BlueDot @ 1480 FPS.
Any of you 454 owners got a good recipe for whitetail? Mike

all I have ever shot from my FA 454's, was a 340gr cast bullets over a heavy dose of 296, or 12gr of Universal Clays, and the Universal Clays load is much easier on the hands!!
I've shot deer with both loads, my 8 1/2" scoped gun I usually use the 340gr cast over 30gr of 296, and the Universal load in the 4 3/4"

I had a super redhawk for a while in .454. That thing was a real blaster. I traded it for a TC contender in 45-70. Not much difference between the two in performance on whitetails as far as I can tell.
I used to load it with the Hornady 300 xtp mag. bullets with some huge dose of H110. and would get 1600 fps without trying real hard. That load duplicates their factory load I believe. Let me tell you, that load will absolutely crush whitetails. Many people say they have had bad luck with that bullet opening up on deer. I never did, but then again I did not shoot all that many with it to say definitively . If I were to do it again I would probably shoot the regular xtp as it has a great track record even at higher velocities (check out the savage smokless page).
The hornady factory 300 grain load is a favorite around here with deer hunters.
Good Luck.
