I know it has been discussed several times, but I'am asking, has anyone not recovered an elk or deer following a lung area hit with these bullets moving at 2350 to 2400 fps? I have been privately discussing with members which bullet to use on an elk hunt here in Arizona, it's an early hunt, but shots could be out to 300 yards, thanks, Ray

bestill has used the 275 Match Hunters with success on deer as I understand. You could contact him but I thought he used the high shoulder shot.

The buck in my avatar took a 310gr APB through both lungs, no ribs hit. Bullet sized entry, a bit bigger exit. Took off like a scalded cat, no blood for the first 80 yds, then a few spots here and a bit more just before recovery at 150 yds. Recovery was in the dark, across a creek and up a thicker drainage. I was a bit worried for awhile, but he was very dead. I would have liked more expansion like I would have expected with a barnes.
With these thicker jacketed bullets I will now take the high shoulder shot, but am also contemplating the E-max for boiler room shots.

Thanks guys, bottom line, they die, jacketed bullets at muzzleloading velocities have generally had expansion problems. 30 years ago I shot a bull at 50 yards in NM with a Knight saboted bullet (300 gr Speer) and merely punched holes in lungs, no ribs, very little blood for several hundres yards and I was able to find enouh blood to recover bull at what I estimate to be 400 yds+. That was at around 1900 fps as I recall, Iam thinking the additional 400 fps will give some added shock as I see a high shoulder shot easily turning into a low shoulder shot(leg) at extended range in a hunting situation, its hard for me to recommend against the boiler room on an elk, thanks again for your opinions, Ray

I've taken 3 deer at ranges from 200-240yards with excellent results on boiler room shots with 300 grain Match Hunters. All 3 traveled from 0-25 yards.
