Went to the range with my new build and was pretty impressed with the gun. Only had time to shoot at the 100 yard range but the 3 shot groups I shot with 4 different charges, 54, 56, 58 and 60 grains over 10 grains of vv110 all shot a 3 bullet touching ragged hole. Decided I'm going to use the 60 grains of h4198 over 10 grains of vv110 as my load as OI'm going to try and get the gun to shoot out to 300 yards. Was shooting smooth sized 250 ftx with federal 209a primers. Only concern I had after shooting I noticed my last few primers were bulged pretty bad. When I took the gun home and removed the plug, I did have a lot of carbon fouling that I cleaned out with a 5/32 bit. Also the vent liner was probably bigger than .035 as I was able to stick a .035 welding wire through the powder side of the hole but not all the way through. The liner has probably 60 shots through it and I changed it out for the next round of shooting. What is causing the primers to bulge? I'm going to stick with the stock liner breach plug for now as I have a bunch. How often should I be cleaning the plug and changing the liner with the 60 over 10 load?

If it were me I would put a 28-30 thousand's ventliner in or change the bushing to a 30. jeff~

Put in a .040" bushing plug and slowly open up the PFC, 1/64" at a time up to 7/32" max size, until the primer bulging subsides.

The combination of primer flame channel or PFC getting fouled and the ventliner opening was causing the primer bulge....Duplexing and shooting sabotless will cause faster ventliner erosion, so you might want to start checking it after 30 shots imho....

If you are going to keep the ventliners don't open up the Pfc as it will accelerate wear IMO. If you follow earnhardts advice open her up and soon you will forget you ever had a problem.

Is a plug something I can install or is it have to be done by someone? How long do they last?

They are talking about a breech plug with a .040" bushing instead of a vent liner.

You can install it yourself if you have the right equipment and know how. Or you can have one of the guys here do it for you for around $50, or you can buy a new plug from Luke with the bushing already installed for around $80.
Know one knows for sure, but they will likely last you a looooooooooooooong time. Hundreds if not thousands of shots, especially if you go with the pure bushing.
