I have seen the gold finish on some 1911's and that's is a titanium oxide finsh...real durable...and not cheap... Richard does your finish look like this titaniumgun.com/coating-services/It's a nitride and can be black also.

Bill.
That's some pretty good shooting and a great looking rifle to boot... Looks like we have a contender for the top shot at the spring shoot....
I have found that a looser fitting bullet will shoot more accurate that one that is hard to push down, I am curious to see if you get the same results as I do with the tighter fitting bullets.
Keep up the good work and I'll see you in a couple weeks...
Jeff Hankins.

AL53,
Yes, I'm saying TiN can be had in black. I've seen the gold TiN on sizing bushings and race guns but have seen black TiN on practical rifles and a hunting guns.

Hillbill: Any chance the rings could be on the high side of spec and the scope on the low side of spec so there just is not enough clamping force to secure it? Could the stout loads contribute? I have heard of rosin or a piece of electrical tape put on the scope to make it larger to help the problem without damaging the scope finish. Never did that so I do not know if it works or not. Once that scope is secure it should really shoot.

I tried the rosin this go around and I still have gap on the rings. Hot loads and just not enough surface area I guess.
Will see what the TPS do in a day or two

Little dab of liquid electric tape might do the trick but them TPS rings should hold.

I use NF or Seekins 4/6 rings for big, heavy optics subjected to substantial recoil.

I use locktite sleeve retainer, just a dab on the bottom ring. If you have to take the scope back out you will have to pop it loose similar to bedding a rifle but I usually use picatinny rails and leave the rings on a scope once installed.
