I'm sure Dave's smiling from ear to ear. That's gonna be an awesome gun. Nice work. Looks like it's gonna be Ruger vs. Savage head to head...

What about scope mounting?? Will there be holes drilled and tapped into the barrel??

What about scope mounting?? Will there be holes drilled and tapped into the barrel?? Yes, the no 1 has to have the base mounted to the barrel so a couple nasty little holes will get drilled. The small diameter of the arrowhead plug is perfect for this so I'm sure Dave can sleep easily even with the scope mount holes. It's the 20moa in the contour that has him flushing peach pits...

I am still curious if welding a rail or some kind of scope mount would really affect the integrity of the barrel. Had a long talk with another board member that does a lot of welding and he seems to think welding would adversely affect the barrel. I guess with a smaller diameter plug and bore size that should safe side some pretty good loads??

Cole,
Nice work on a clasic rifle....beautiful
Be nice if you could put a quarter rail on that.

That gun always handled as good as it looked, I expect it is going to do both even better now, I may even have to beg for pardon so I can have a chance to sit behind it and pull the trigger.

Cole. Sometime down the road I may want to rebarrel my #1. Longer barrel and small bore with chamber. Mine is presently a 1:14 45 24in. I would like to do a switch barrel. Did you do a chamber on that one? How long is that barrel? I think you are right the arrowhead plug is great for this application. Really nice work. Dave should be a happy camper. Do you do trigger work on the #1?

Nice going Cole. Rambler....................I would not want anyone welding on my muzzle loader barrel where pressures could get up into the 50k! Richard

Just curios, I have a sporterized 03A3 and the front of the scope base attaches via a band and not screws. Your rear screws are almost certainly over the BP and should not be in high pressure area. I wonder if there is a scope base similar to the 03A3 that could use a front band and then you could eliminate putting holes in the HP area. edge.

edge. Interesting, do you know who makes the band and mount?

Jon, it has a chamber, I went with 60gr since this one will be for more moderate loads and lighter bullets. Cole can answer the other questions. Cole, looking good and coming together a lot faster than we planned! Kreiger must be slowing down or they give exaggerated lead times, 5 months ahead of schedule.

Is using the smaller diameter Arrowhead breech plug instead of the Savage breech plug still not good in hingers and such? Weld that base on there Cole. That will look sweet!!

I have a friend here in Dayton, OH That does micro laser welding. Here's a bolt handle I had him weld on.

I have a friend here in Dayton, OH That does micro laser welding. Here's a bolt handle I had him weld on. I think my only issue would be how do you fixture it for welding? Laser welding would certainly be a very cool way to go. Penetration is very low, probably only about 0.025 deep so no real metallurgical damage. They also make beautiful welds. edge.
