I am not the guru on this but I thought I read it was something like this. When one dry fired primers on an empty barrel the thrust was only forward and it would seal and stick. When there was a load or powder charge there was some push back through the vent liner hole and that pushed it free again. I have had at times a primer stick after firing a powder load and you have already found the cure if that occurs. Just refire the old primer and often that will free it up. Good shooting.

(pertaining to 209 ignition) When you fire just a primer pressure causes the center section of the 209 primer to back out against the boltface, jamming it in there. With a full load, barrel pressure is bleeding thru the flash hole and pushing the whole primer body back against the boltface, pushing the center section back in again freeing it up. I had the same problem. Per Luke's suggestion, I bored out the primer pocket and pressed in a bushing for the primer to headspace against. With firm pressure pushing the primer against the boltface the center couldn't back out in the first place so they come right out with my fingers whether firing a full load or just a primer. Ed P

I too had this problem with my MLIIs. I just "polished" the pocket and no more sticking all the time but it does happen infrequently with dry firing primers. 2nd dry fire to loosen up and remove primer. Not a big problem and problem pretty much gone away with polishing pocket and use. No such problem with my 700ML with upgrade as those breech plugs have a bushing for proper primer depth etc... And as you said never a problem with primer removal after a load shot. Epanzella gave a good synopsis of what is happening. This scenario is only a problem for me when starting a range session after long storage. Not often happening and never happened in a field/hunting situation. Is a nuisance at the range at times. Good solutions are given, choose how to address as you please. $.02 10 ga
