I found two sheds today. For the last 15 years or so I generally find a couple to 4 or 5. Wide variations in size. My neighbor, who is a long time hunter, told me he saw an antlered deer this morning. Another hunter told me earlier in the week he saw one. I have never seen an antlered deer in this part of Ohio this late in the season. I talked to the game warden on Friday and mentioned the one observed in mid week and he said he had never seen any this late. Usually they are off before March 1 here. Anyone else seeing antlered bucks in Ohio yet? Less time to grow bigger ones.

My hunting buddy who also coon hunts said he saw a fair size buck about 10 days ago still having both antlers. The last one I saw this late was probably 15 years ago and just remember it was into spring when I saw him. South east Ohio

I have seen antlered deer almost to turkey opener in Lawrence county.
It is a good sign to see bucks hold their antlers longer. In an ideal situation, a buck will hold his antlers until new growth sheds the hard antler.
A buck goes through many types of stress and stress is a leader in early drops, and often can indicate an unhealthy deer.
So seeing bucks holding this late is a good sign if a healthy buck

It is an elk. His dog sniffs them out I guess.

Starting to see good antler growth in my neck of the woods...Plenty of moisture this year so the antlers should grow accordingly...Pronghorns are looking good also. Zen

Zen, if you are having trouble with to many pronghorns in your area let me know and I will help thin the herd for you.

Zen, if you are having trouble with to many pronghorns in your area let me know and I will help thin the herd for you. Plenty of antelope to go around....The hitch is that all permits are draw and that you need 3 preference points to draw one.... At best a guy can only hunt every 3 years....Archery permits are available over the counter every year.Takes some scouting and talking to landowners...Nebraska is 97% private land. Zen

I have been putting in for pronghorn every year for the past 9 years and I have not drawn a tag. Oh well. Keep on trying.
I'll be out hunting for sheds and places to hunt next weekend. I drew a mule deer buck tag so, it's time to scout a little. We only get a 5 day season, so make the most of it.

Update for this year. A friend of mine took a picture of a small 6 point on Saturday April 2, 2016. Both antlers on, near Port Clinton at the Lake Erie area. He said a neighbor winter feeds the deer there and apples also. Unsure if that makes a difference or not. I saw the photo, deer looked healthy but not fat.
