I just got a "Murphy" scope base. Beautiful stainless Picatimimmy but the sucker weighed about 3 pounds. Too late for me but I just saw this base made by this Idaho long/range specialty outfit. They say if your scope is not level when you shoot it will throw your shot way off at distance -- I guess your up and down movement is not the same as left n right mivement. Anyway they build an aluminum base with a level built into the very back so you don't have to move your eye when shooting. Cost for 700 Rem model $99. Better than 3 pounder? I didn't know how to transfer picture so someone help me. Go to truehardcoregear.com

I've seen that before and think it looks like an alright product. I was shooting an aluminum base last weekend at youngs longshot but it isn't my preferred material. If you watch this video you will see why I like stout mounts and optics!

I prefer steel bases and the level on my scope (I swap optics between guns).

I use aluminum on lightweight builds BUT they have full width cross slots and I use good quality rings. the bases that are grooved down the middle like EGW are not up to heavy recoil. so far I have yet to have a problem but prefer steel on normal weight guns...

I have a 20 MOA alum. Bench Source on my 4O Savage TA and a 30 MOA Ken Ferrell steel base on my .416. I'm pretty sure you can get taken Ferrell base in steel or aluminum in up to 40 MOA if you like.
