No misfires at all, I've never had a misfire with a .030 plug yet, with singles or duplex's, knock on wood. The stock PFC .040 plug in the test 375 has ignited some really slow powders with 0 problems (minus the bushing splitting, but we are still using it). That plug has now been opened up to 7/32 PFC, so we will crank up the loads even more and see how it does.

Several people have shown interest or been curious about this build and of the cost to build this gun. I will say, this gun was built to be a hunt specific gun for my Dad and not built for bench rest competitions, although it has already proven to shoot very well right off the bat. That being said, I did not upgrade the trigger or buy an aftermarket stock and I wanted to shoot Parkers right out of the box so I went with a McGowen, I wanted to keep it simple for Dad and it is exactly what I ordered. In my mind, I set a $2k budget when Cole started this project and I can say this, when it was done, optics included, it left me a pocket full of money to put towards my Colorado trip this fall! It was a bargain for what I received. This is one of many guns out there built on an average budget, that will flat out deliver. To me, this is the Ultimate Rem, because it's a total package, it was built for my Dad and it didn't break the bank.

That seems too good to be a true story? Corners were cut I assume... It appears the only thing cut was the profit margin.

I can assure you I still made money on it. Guy has many projects going right now so yes he got a little bit of a deal.
Jed, softer approach maybe. You seem like you have an agenda, I'm sorry if and hope that I'm wrong.

Anyone ever notice how many groupies are showing up on this website? They have very few posts. The majority of those posts either slightly or bluntly insults any other gun and owner, other than their pagan God's. They do not make any posts themselves about their own SMLs, (probably because they don't even have one) Is anyone computer savy on this board?...I think we should start checking IP addresses.

Not happenin'. At best all you'd get is their general location and internet provider. And I don't think the FBI or NSA is interested.

I think everyone should pretend these new sh-t stirring posts don't exist, do not reply to them and they will soon go away. If they can get you worked up, they will stay longer.

Phil, the stock is a factory bdl stock. It was a used stock with some dings in it that I stripped and sanded to a usable condition for guys build. I had secured it for myself and finished it with matte tung oil before guy came here to drop off some other rifles. He saw it and said gloss that thing up and put a brake on it. Then put that handle on it too. I was like great! I just spent two weeks worth of nights with the matte tung oil, guess I'll start over! It came out looking good so no harm no foul.

The Ole Man get to shoot it yet? Not yet, hoping the next weekend I'm off I can get him out there and turn him loose with it. Cole, I hope you learned your lesson, put your guns out of sight before I get there.

You had a chance to get Pop's out there with Woody yet? The plan is for next Wednesday or Thursday if the weather is fit, I'm going to size him some 250 sst's to try out as well as the 275 BE's. Will try out some duplex loads as well as the straight loads of 4198.

Well I set Dad up with some 7mm mag cases loaded with 70 grains of H4198, a handful of 275 BE's and 275 MH's all right out of the box, gave him a bullet box with Fed 209 primers and .060 veggie wads in it, a powder funnel, bullet starter and ramrod, I went over the gun a few times and preached about double loads and using the witness mark religiously, to the point he was mad, I couldn't be there when he was going to shoot, but felt confident he would be fine and likely whip my a.. with his bench results. I did remember to tell him to measure his groups from outside to outside, but never thought to mention to tell him to save the targets. So off I went while he was getting set up to shoot his McRem. I called him on my way home that evening to see how it went and this is what he said: Well, I guess it went ok. I shot 5 of the 275 BE's first into one group at 100 yards and that group measured just under 3/4 of an inch outside to outside, so I guess that wasn't too bad. Then I shot 3 of the 275 MH's at 100 and that 3 shot group was just under 1/2" outside to outside, but I was done at that point cause the old shoulder didn't want any more. I said, Dad, that's some awesome shooting, you're shooting a light weight muzzleloader!! The ole Viet Nam vet can flat out shoot! and if that's what he says it shot, that's what it shot, he doesn't b.s. or pull no punches. The recoil is a lil stout for him, but will be fine for hunting. I told him, I bet we can tweak that load and smooth size those bullets and tighten the group even more. So now that's on the agenda, he's waiting on some sized bullets and more powder charges. Also going to size him some SST's and FTX's and slow it down a bit and see if that's more comfortable for him. Next time I hope I can be there with him and get some pics of his abilities and the very economical McRem's abilities. I couldn't be happier and I don't think he could be either, except get it to one hole group, I believe that's his goal... We will see. I just can't believe how good this gun shoots, for what it is....mind blowing. Thanks again cMc!

Good shooting ! As Hank,Jr. says " It's a family tradition " . Chris Thanks, he's a great man. He's taught me everything I know, been a life long mentor and best friend and always had my back, no matter what. Just wished I'd a picked up on his trigger skills... He out shoots me 99.9% of the time we sit down on the bench. But it's all good, glad he's digging the SML game.
