OK. We now know most are finding .22 rim fire ammo. How much are you paying?

IF you see any around NW Indiana, it is $2.50 per 50 or $20-25 for a brick. I bought a 100 sleeve of CCI mini mags for $12 last fall and a box of 22mag maxi mags for $14. Ugghh. I have enough to get me by for awhile. Got my kid a bb gun and me a pellet rifle to pass the time.

I don't shoot plinker ammo in my rifle so I voted 10cents/rnd. I shoot match or CCI SV which is very close to match. I shoot .22LR out to as far a 300yds as a training replication of some CF stuff at 800-1000yds and anything less will have large velocity spreads which make it hard to shoot past about 100yds. I shoot the Federal Auto Match in my trainer pistol and it runs about 10cents/round also. In the rare instances I hunt squirrels or small game with a rimfire instead of a longbow I shoot the Mini-Mag HP which costs about the same. These three rounds have shown to be the most consistent in terms of precision, velocities, and function for the money.

I just purchased 5 bricks of American Eagle for $100 OTD and 1 brick of Remington Thunderbolts for $25. I need to pick up another 10 bricks to have enough to shoot this season.

This Winter I have seen Federal Auto Match 325 round package for $ 39.95 at a sport shop in Southern New York State . The Remington Yellow Jackets were $ 5.99 for a box of 50 . I haven't seen Remington High Velocity " Golden Bullet " Solid or Hollow Points in 2 years ... not that is such a great shell but where can they be going ? At the Great America Outdoor Show in Harrisburg , Pa I asked the Remington Rep at their display " Where is all the .22 ammo ? " He assured me that they were making ammo 24 hours a day , 7 days a week . Chris

I talked to two guys at different Walmarts in the area, one of fellows I've known since he was a kid. They both said they had not seen any .22 rimfire since last November. One guy told me there was an app for a smart phone that tracked when the .22's would be where and when. I have a dumb phone and don't know very much about apps. But I would not be surprised that such things exist. I just have a hard time grasping the concept that we go from .22's everywhere in abundance, to hard to find at 4 times the price. Someone is not telling the truth.

I have a hard time grasping the concept that there could be such a shortage of all basic powder , primers , brass , and bullets as well as .22 ammo ! However IMR brings out new powders , new cartridges are introduced for " home defense " and AR type rifles but you wait months to find a bullet your .243 Win. chuck rifle likes and .35 Remington ammo and bullets are out of stock with " No Back Order " at Midway . I voted the 7-9 cent@. Because that is what I'm paying for bulk. More if I find target grade. 22WMR paid 15-17 cent@ for the chootem. 10

To write the final chapter on this, supply on the Illinois side close to St. Louis, MO has increased. A new Gander Mountain opened nearby in O'fallon,IL, and they had a good assortment of .22 rimfire ammo. They restricted a person to buying to one box of each offering they had at 6-9 cents a round depending on the number of rounds per box. I bought one box of 550 winchester hp ,and a 50 count box of Rem. sub sonic hollow points my favorite squirrel load. All this baloney because of a few greedy people looking to pad their pockets. A pox on their houses.

I found two 50 rd boxes of Federal (Lightning)? at a local Walmart (NW Indiana) since my last find of the sleeve of CCI in the fall. That's it! I just bought a cheap, but pristine, plastic Savage 17hmr from a guy at work for $150, with scope and two boxes ammo thrown in. Can't complain with that deal. I do see 17hmr ammo at a lot of places nowadays, so I figure I will pick up a box every time we see some until I get a good stash built up. They have been between $11 and $17 depending where you find them. That and the pellet rifle will have to suffice.
