One of the things I plan to upgrade this spring is my powder dispensing system. Right now I have a Lee dispenser and Lee safety scale. It works but the dispenser especially could use some improvement. Like not being all plastic. I would like to switch to an electronic scale and dispenser combo, but I don't know if that's really that necessary. What do you all recommend? Total I would like to keep it under $250.

I used a friends Hornady Lock N Load powder dispenser/scale and it was quite accurate and fast. I weighed out 25 charges very quickly. I have heard the RCBS combo is better, but this one worked very well for the time I used it.

harrellsprec.com/index.php/products/premium-powder-measureI throw all my main charges with this measure. Yes, I have the RCBS Chargemaster electronic measure but for my non-competition CF loads, this is all I use. I throw the booster charge with a Lyman #55 measure as it is more suited to small charges. Nothing wrong with the Chargemaster, just too slow when you are loading up as many as I do. A tenth or two of a grain one way or the other makes NO difference. I often tell shooter who don't believe this to load up ten charges two tenths of a grain heavy or two tenths of a grain light and then ten with your scale right on the nose! Now go and shoot them over your chronograph and see if you can tell the difference?............Maybe, just maybe, in a highly tuned match rifle you might? All short range benchresters (they all load at the matches) use a powder measure like the Harrell's. They are so repeatable and simple. Richard

I have the RCBS Chargemaster combo and love it. $289.99@ Natchez +1That's a good price for the CM, and this is about the only time of the year you can find such a good deal on something which MSRP is close to $400. I know it's a little more than you wish to pay, but you won't regret it, especially if you reload CF cartridges. The first 20 or so CF cases, I checked with a balance beam scale. After that, I just spot check because it is very rare that the CM is even .1 off.

It's definitely not time consuming to use an RCBS Chargemaster. By the time I unscrew the cap on the next vial its beeping for me to dump the next load in the tube. RCBS's go on sale a good bit. Just keep a watch.

Is the chargemaster that much different than something like the Lyman Gen 5 or Gen 6? Is there something about the RCBS that makes it worth almost $100 more?

I have the Lyman gen 6 and love it. The major difference unless they have changed the calibration method on the RCBS it is a lot simpler to calibrate the Lyman than the RCBS. This was an older RCBS so calibration may have got simpler. Kevin

RCBS has a rebate going as well - $50 back if you spend over $300.

Is the chargemaster that much different than something like the Lyman Gen 5 or Gen 6? Is there something about the RCBS that makes it worth almost $100 more? Could very well be they're made under the same roof in another country. Both the Gen5 and Gen6 are being sold by Midway, and the larger, harder to use Gen5 is actually more expensive than the Gen6. I have a dead 1200 DPS that looks much like the Gen5 and was almost happy it went south. Those did not have a very good reputation. The Gen6 is well within your price range at Amazon and the reviews are pretty good: www.amazon.com/Lyman-7750550-Gen-Compact-Powder/dp/B00AU6CIUOThey are higher priced at Midway.

Natchez has the Gen 6 for $202. Reviews seem to be good for it. I watched a couple videos of it being used on Youtube. I looked like it was fairly simple and worked well. I inherited the stuff for reloading and hope to make use of it, but the press is a progressive Dillon so if I'm doing a lot of reloading I would just use the dispenser on the press. Natchez also has the Burris Fullfield E1 on sale cheaper than most places so might make 1 big order from them. But I don't want to buy the Gen 6 if its junk.

For $287 on the RCBS and if you could get the $50 rebate I'd go with the chargemaster. I do not know how the rebate works: (over $300 one item/multiple RCBS items?).
Doesn't matter for me, Natchez won't sell to TN, GA, and a few other states. Bastages!

Or, because who doesn't like options... I just got an email from Brownells and they have the Hornady version on sale for $240. Looks like it's a little fancier than the Lyman but don't know much about it other than that.

I just got my charge master from Natchezss in the mail. I am filling out the rebate coupon. I also ordered a set of dies for my rifle which pulls it over $300. It says 3 to 6 weeks to get the refund. I did the same with a rockchucker last year and got the rebate. So basically $325 + $16 shipping and you get $50 back. Paid for the dies and shipping I guess and got it for 25% off. Not to bad of a deal considering it should work great for reloading as well.
