Well after many days of failure I finally had a gun shop drill out breech plug. They pulled barrel and now that it is re installed the sights don't line up and there is a little slack in bolt. He is an amazing rifle builder but knows nothing about the 10 ml 2. So ahould I order wrench and vise and fix myself. I need help lol

This is a relative easy fix, spend $30 on a wrench from luke here on the board, and go to the tip and help section above this post and it will guide you thru. I assume you had the old style breach plug stuck which is common. Be sure to go to the hex style plug when you reinstall. If your sights and thimble don't line up take the barrel off and try starting it in a different part of the threads, there is sometimes 2 start points that the two will start threading at. If you still have problems you can pm me for help or any of the others that would offer. regards jeff~

I made my own barrel vice by taking a piece of hardwood a little over an inch thick and drilled a 1inch hole in it. Then 2 5/16 holes through it from top to bottom, then split it in half on the table saw. Then took 2pieces of 2inch angle iron and drilled the same 5/16 holes to match. Run 2 long bolts through all of it. Clamp it in a vice by the angle iron and WALLA you have a barrel vice....works like a charm for me....if I can do it anyone can. I bet I ain't got 5bucks worth of junk in it Drop

Good point drop, I used a 3x3x3 oak block drilled a inch hole thru the center then sliced it in half. then each side of the block fits the action opening, tighten in the vice and no marks on the action. jeff~

I wouldn't use the C drill bit. It opens the pocket up to much and may not seal correctly. Better to take some 600grit wet or dry sandpaper and cut it 1/4inch wide. Wrap it around a 3/16 dowel rod and gently "massage " the primer pocket to a snug fit. This works a Whole lot better in the long run. Good luck Drop

Good tip Drop! You really want the bolt to "cam" in the primer with a bit of resistance. It makes for a good seal. Richard

Thank you guys very much! yall have been a tremendous help. I will be ordering a wrench and in the mean time I am taking it to the smith I mentioned in a couple days so we can get her finished up. I will post pics when I get her done. And if she don't shoot I guess I will have the tools I need to get started on a custom;)

Update. Me and the smith I went to today was trying to get 2/3 primer deep in the breech plug and by doing so my ram rod holder and everything was way off. I tried to go a full rev in and bolt and breech would not allow so I abck it back up and set it where my primer starts to give slight resistance which is what I would assume is factory more or less. I will paint a primer and measure how deep it goes here in a bit. My question is what should be my minimum acceptance?

Ok I just marked 3 primers and ran bolt I am getting almost exactly half my primer seated in breech plug at full lock and I have my sights/ramrod lined up. Before we started polishing the breech plug primer pocket the 209a federal a would barely go in like not even 1/5 of the way

I am somewhat surprised that you were able to turn that barrel in an extra turn and still get the bolt to function. Only slightly surprised so don't get overly excited about this.
What you describe is great but I would like to warn you if you can do this with Federals your Winchesters probably will not work. This is an okay thing, just use the Federal primers. If it works it isn't broke.
On the Savages I have seen the "headspace" is very lenient. If you have your gun set up to shoot the Federals with no blow-by I'd say you have it whooped! Don't change primers and you are golden. If you change primers and experience bolt lock up whej camming over then you should understand why.

To be clear. Not a full turn from factory. I'm talking a full turn from where the gunsmith who drilled old plug out for me reset my barrel and told me.....should be fine and I had a gut filling it was too lose hints we got a full turn out of it...lol

Are the federal 209a a good primer? I tried to find the Winchester locally with no luck. I picked up some chi but they are not magnum. I have an extra breech plug so I can swap to unpolished if needed

The fed 209a is a hotter primer, perhaps the hottest. Many like them for winter shooting to assure better ignition. The Wins it has been told are more round, may seal better.

Are cci regular good to use or do I need the magnum The regulars work fine in warm weather, but I don't trust them during cold weather/hunting season. I have a few thousand CCI mag primers.....how many do you need?

I was trying to find them locally because I was under the impression there is the hazmat fee on shipping them

Yes there is a HazMat fee on primers and powder . It is usually around $ 25 to $ 30 . Chris
