I just want to gauge interest in shilen 45 1:20 twist prefits for remington builds? These are stainless and number 7 contour. I will have some ready to go the end of next week but wanted to see if there was much interest and if I should get more or some of different calibers. Thanks guys.

They will be for the savage plug and 700ml. If you want a cf prefit for the Dave d plug I can do that too.

I am just thinking out loud.........................These are set up to take the Savage breech plug and the Hunter bolt nose kit?.............Why Shilen vs. PN or McGowan? Better price? They are still button rifled barrels. From the noise on the forum, there seems to be a slight trend towards cut rifled barrels?..........Brux/Krieger etc.? I personally do not have a problem with any of the custom bench rest quality barrels on the market. I do shoot Brux and Krieger in LR competition but have had good results with buttoned barrels including Shilen. Just wondering why Shilen? Richard

Less lead time and just as good or better quality in my opinion than pac-nor. I have always been a shilen guy and if there is anyone else that would like one I'd be happy to supply it. If no one wants them I'll be glad to keep them all to myself!

You can send one here for testing. As of right now we have McGowen, Pacnor and most recently Brux as prefits. I see no issue whatsoever with Cole making Shilen prefits as they should shoot right with the others. Having them on hand and ready to go is a plus come close to season when people get the urge to build a gun then realize, ohh I have to wait 6-7 months for a barrel. You got any CmC stickers or business cards yet?

The smoothest top to bottom barrel I have at this time is a Shilen 45 1:14 Everything else I have is Pacnor.

I think that's a great offering to have another option available for everyone. I've seen some pretty good groups out of a Shilen barrel. Hats off to you for your time and effort. I'm sure they will be top notch prefits and put lots of smiles on people's faces when they get them.

Cole,
I like the way you think! It will be very nice to have the Shilen option. I shoot Shilen tubes on my all rifles and they are all very accurate.

Mark, they are 30" barrels when I get them and they can make a 28" with drop. You can get one from 16-28 inches with crown of your choice.

Maybe if the Shilen prefit deal works out well, which I'm sure it will, maybe next batch we will see a few prefit 40 cals?

What is the cost of this barrel compared to the PAC-nor and mcGowen barrel?

Price is the same as Luke's pac-nor barrels, I will post them in the classifieds with price once they are ready.

More options is a plus for the consumers, very nice!
I was very happy with the Shilen on my #1, very consistent loading resistance from breech to muzzle. would not hesitate to buy another.

Dave when you say "was very happy with" is this the barrel that Cole just sectioned? If it was it appears the loose spot at the breech developed over time from the 3500 shots? I was wondering if maybe it was always there like some barrels, but is sounds like maybe not?

From what I know of the barrel it developed at the end of it's life. Impossible to tell what caused it but Dave will chime in on what he believes could be the culprit. He is 110% sure it was never double loaded.

I can say with certainty that the loose spot was not there at the beginning Mike. Wish I could say at what point the looseness developed but that barrel has saw a lot of 70gr charges and I am not in the habit of pushing bullets through the bore to check sizing fit.

If I get my butt in gear I hope to have the first one! If not a couple guys have it lined up to twist one faster than me.

I am awaiting my Brux barrel from Luke to replace mine which is loose at the breech end....The one members here so generously decided to get for me. But, I have since bought a couple of actions that I plan to build some rifles for sale and have contacted Cole on trying one of the Shilen barrels. When I get it, I will be sure to see how the bore feels and put a few shots down range prior to whoever buys it. Richard

I also have a Shilen 1:14 on a Ruger #1 that was bought from a member I'm very happy with the barrel it is by far the most consistant barrel I have top to bottom and shoots well. I don't want to shorten the barrel any more or I would have a combination die made for it. If some one has a drop from a Shilen 1:14 45 cal. that they would be willing to part with I would be interested.
