I recently bought a conversion smokeless. Its a CVA Apex 45-70 conversion topped with a Nikon BDC scope. My question is how to set up the BDC at the 100 yard range before I go out to longer distances. I assume I can build a ballistics chart if I have the speeds and BC. What do I do from here? I am shooting a duplex 10/50 IMR SR4759/H4198 with a 200 g SST and LBH sabots at 2625FPS.

You can get close with a ballistics calculator such as JBM ballistics, but it's always best to verify it in real world conditions.

Sight it in dead on at 100 yards,, then verify the drops by actual shooting... Jeff Hankins...

If sighted in at 100yds with the BDC300, 1st circle 147yds, 2nd 212, 3rd 314, 4th 412, bottom post 494
Nikon SpotOn, good program and its free.
BDC250- 1st and 2nd same, 3rd 290, 4th 355, bottom post 447
I would think it would get you close but only one way to find out, post up your results.

you will need to know your speed to get a good fix on the spot on app or shoot a bunch and figure the drop to get the speed

Bestill had some actual experience with a Nikon Monarch at a bit lower speeds. You might contact him for some ideas.

You will learn a lot about your load and build confidence in the process.

Them circles suck for precise long range shots. IMO I agree Bigmoose but for a hunting gun, its what I got.

Have you considered using sabotless bullets?
