Jeff? Will there be a sizing die on hand set up to use? I can bring my rockchucker that is mounted to a steel beam on a stand. Just have to swap out the dies. I heard somebody had a press on their bumper.

I'm the only one not shooting a Hankins rifle? Kash.. Last year I had 18 shooters. 6 or 7 guys had my guns. You won't be the only one not shooting one of my guns.. 12pointdroptine don't have one of my guns.. However, you probably will be the only guy shooting a swinglock unless cowhunter shows up... It's all good,, shoot what ever you bring... If it loads from the front it qualifies.... Jeff Hankins..

12ptdroptine, Jeff said in this thread that he has running water and a hot water portable shower to use. If you have a tent, that's another option for you. Kyle

Depending on you service provider will be the deciding factor. I have AT&T and I get great service all the way down in the hollers. There is no WIFI in the area....

Last year with my ATT phone I received service at the range. Not great service but it worked. Seems like I had to go close to store down the road to get Internet.

Got up at 430 this morning to meet jeff at 6 to do some range work. We dropped about 20 more trees and got the place mowed. One more day at the range and we should have it ready for the shoot. Also Jeff had a run in with a deadly pit viper!!!!

Let me clear up things about the pit viper story... My good buddy Lorne found a big snake.. One just like this.. It was cold this morning with a heavy frost so the snake wasn't moving hardly at all.. When I wasn't looking ole oneshotike snuck down and rapped that snake around my chain saw,, now I knew right where my saw was because I had just sat it down there a few minutes earlier.. As I walked back to the saw and reached down to pick it up I saw the snake all curled up on the saw and yes,,,, I jumped back and said .?!- ($@&;?!/?@,,, Mike and Lorne got a good kick out of it as they were both in on the joke...Once I realized they had planted it there I reached down and toss that big boy over in the weeds so he could eat some more mice this summer when he warms up.. I think you will always jump when you see a snake, or at least when you see one like I did this morning.., even when you know it's not poison you still jump.... Kash,, We cleared enough to get out to 350 yards and according to oneshotike's estimation we could get 400 yards if we cut down another 20 trees or so... Jeff Hankins..

Bill,,,
Those two huge mungaus sycamore threes that provided all the shade last year at the 300 yard line are now on the ground.. Guessing these trees both had stumps that would measure 4 feet across... Had they not been hollow inside my 20 inch chain saw would have not even been close.....

Jeff: If you have the sycamore trees quarter sawn you will discover some beautiful wood. Often used for inlays.

Jeff: If you have the sycamore trees quarter sawn you will discover some beautiful wood. Often used for inlays. Jim's.. I was planning on using it for fire wood because I hate to just waist it. I burned some of it last year and it seemed to burn hot, but burned up fast.. These two trees alone will probably be cose to a winters supply.. What is quarter sawn mean.. I have a friend the own a timber king bandsaw mill, maybe he will want some of it.. Jeff Hankins.

Instead of the normal rip sawn board it is cut more on a radial cut or angle cut. One gets less usable board feet of lumber but it often carries a different and more distinct wood grain figure and is more stable. It yields a better grade of wood for furniture and specialty projects. My nephew used some in small wood cabinet inlays, it reminds me a bit of bird's eye maple in looks. From memory normally to get the most wood it is plain sawn, rift and quartersawn yield less wood but more stable wood. The band saw operator may wish to try some. I hope the weather cooperates for your wood removal for the longer range and for the event itself.

Quarter sawn wood is very nice, don't see it much any more. 100 years ago it was common but then wood was a lot easier to come by and cheap, no so these days....

We are right on the bank of a creek and there are a lot of water snakes there. As for rattle snakes I have never seen one in the wild.

Jeff: If you have the sycamore trees quarter sawn you will discover some beautiful wood. Often used for inlays. I saw my friend today that has the saw mill. I told him about the big sycamore trees I cut down and asked him what quarter sawn wood was compared to just regular sawing it. He explained to me what the difference was and the pros and cons of both. He told me to bring him some logs and he would quarter saw them for me,, so if after cutting out the hollow sections,, there is enough left to make a good eight footer or so I will take him a few.. Don't matter ifn it was a garter snake that bit me....I would still die of a heart attack... Did I mention I hate snakes? Russ.... Of all the years I have been going to that property to hunt and fish and camp,. I've only seen one rattle snake and two copperheads.. Once in a while you will run into a cotton mouth but most of the time the snakes are non venomous water snakes. Since the range is right on a big creek bottom it's not uncommon to see them.. They do get pretty big and will freak you out if you discover one on accident but they will not hurt you.. Just stay out of the creek and close to Bill and you will be fine.... Jeff Hankins..
