I was finally able to connect with some venison during ohios late muzzleloader today. I was toting the .458 26" Rempac today loaded with 310 APB's and 70grs h4198 sparked by a Fed209a. Got into the stand around 6:50 this morning and waited for first shooting light. Right at 8:20 I caught some movement off to my left and saw what appeared to be two doe, I was feeling like an adventure and brought my nikon d5200 and tripod along to attempt to film my own hunt. The shot was 98yds and Lukes bullet did its thing. I was instructed by the land owner to take high shoulder shots to keep the deer from traveling to the next property, I think it worked!! I made my shot and went to investigate and tag, then straight back to the stand as this was a management hunt and I hoped to take a second doe before the end of the day. At 8:55 I got my chance as a convoy of does came trolling through the woods, I didnt get a count but it was definitely over 25 in that cluster. The front runner was clearly the largest and very brown/red in color compared to all the other grey slickheads standing around. Again I readied my one man hunting show and got prepared to make the shot. The second doe came to rest almost on top of the first, very convienent for tracking purposes. All in all a great short day and it was a lot of fun, followed by a lot of solo work to get them out! Don't make fun of the man in orange he is outwardly fugly!
The tripod came in handy for an outdoorsmans selfie!
310's can be rough on the backside!!
videos of the shots, the first was out of focus as I didnt have auto tracking focus turned on I'll never make it in the big leagues. I think you'll still get the point!
