What little time I got with the Hart accublock before the stock cracked, very triangular and flat groups. Very impressive shooting!

It hurts when you have a good stock and end up with broken dreams.

Thanks guys! Mike, the ignition is working great. I have some mirage when the barrel heats up and the scope is from 40-50x. Since the gun is so heavy, it's a dream to shoot with the brake on it. I like the idea of the Venetian blind heat shield. How do you attach it to the gun?
The block is a Whidden block I dropped into the Hart stock.

All the heat shields I have seen either attached to sight blocks or with velcro.

I have seen the Venetian blinds attached with small Velcro squares. They put one side on the barrel and the other on the blind with the cup of the blind facing up. Just one at each end....however your barrels tend to run longer so I would put one in the middle also Drop

Savage T/A B-17 .458 31" Brux 310 APB CCI-M 209 primer IMR 3031 90 grains Here's some more groups from Sunday Morning W-NW wind light , but nice and steady quartering to me from left front Mid day Changed to Federal 209A primer to see if it effected groups. Wind W-SW 0-5, didn't have the 200 yard flag up, but 400 yard flag kept flicking up and down.. ~ straight across left to right Shots 1 and 2 I timed pretty good and I was getting a little giddy...just as I pulled the trigger on the 3rd shot the 400 yard flag flicked up and my shot went to the right (Insert profanity here)!!! So I thought ok, let's try the best 3 out of 4 shots...wrong again... flag flicked again on shot 4 But I liked how the first 3 shots were within an inch or so vertically... Yes the target is crumpled up since I did my best Tasmanian Devil imitation when I removed it... Group 3 afternoon Wind W light, but fairly consistent ( Mike, you're right, a steady wind flag does put a smile on a guy's face.) ~ straight across left to right Federal 209A primer I set up the 200 yard flag pole after I scraped ice off of it to get it to stand up...it's 26' tall and the flag is at 24'. Which is about where my bullets fly by at 200 yards. A little better...

Gonna have to send someone out there to verify these amazing results!
What was the temp throughout the day? Too bad you quit posting velocities as I was loving the incredible temp insensitivity you are displaying with straight powder loads!

myers, one of these days I'll get together with the Iowa boys and sling some lead and we can compare groups. I'm not worried if anyone believes me or not. I don't need 18 witnesses to post groups, when the vast majority of the guns out there will do the same as mine can. It's just that a lot of guys don't have the luxury of walking 30 steps to their 500 yard shooting bench. kralik4jr's RemBrux 28" punched a 2" group at 500 yards. Plus he smoked a coyote at 614 yards with it. He and I are both knuckle draggers. (I drool more than he does though.) So if we can do it, anyone can! Once you get used to shooting the gun, and find out what powders and bullet sizing it likes a 1/2 to 3/4 MOA gun at 500 yards is achievable. People do not pay enough attention to their Swinglock Full form die, because the majority of guys only shoot at 100 yards and can't see the difference a minute adjustment can make with the Swinglock FF die. The ES for these 3 groups was 18 fps. One shot over the chrony before shooting the group. IMR3031 is a great powder to work with. Builds decent pressure and high velocity. The morning group was ~ 20* colder than the afternoon group on Sunday. sml, the Sightron SIII 10-50x is actually has clearer glass than the 8-32x does. But, once the mirage rears it's ugly head I'm better off leaving it at ~ 40x. But it's nice being able to see your shots at 500 yards with the higher power.

Fine shooting. I bought some 3031 and may have to try it but will lighter loads still work?

Fine shooting. I bought some 3031 and may have to try it but will lighter loads still work? With lighter loads your best bet is a 4198 or similar powder. The lightest load I've tried with 3031, IIRC, is 85 grains with a 300 grain MH bullet, and I did not have problems with ignition.

You guys amaze me. That's what I call perfect shooting. When you shoot 500yd. and get groups like that anything can cause a minute's deflection that you have no control over. I believe the wind can raise a bullet in flight as well as move it sideways, also trigger pull, mirage and just how you look into the scope to get the proper sight picture and with 'older eyes'- who knows... But keep up the good work as I enjoy it and learn from it. When I can shoot ground hogs and deer in the head at 'long range' with a muzzleloader I'm happy. That only happened since smokeless muzzleloaders!

Really nice.
What size bushing and PFC? What do you figure FPS and PSI are? Are you getting FPS loss at colder temps?

Really nice. What size bushing and PFC? What do you figure FPS and PSI are? Are you getting FPS loss at colder temps? .041" bushing 7/32" PFC QL says 46,500 psi I haven't shot this load in this gun in a wide temp range. But I'm not seeing a drop so far. But that doesn't mean when it gets to -25F it won't drop in fps.

B-17....416 OR maybe the... B-11 Bomber Savage TA Krieger .416 29" 11 twist Arrowhead Plug CCI 209M primers 325 MHs H4350 100 grains ~2960 fps Wind: E-SE ~3-5 nice steady flag. Almost straight across R to L This is the second 3 shot group I've shot at 500 yards with this barrel. The thing I like best about it is the fact that both of the groups, the gun put 2 shots around 1" of each other. The other group was about a 6" 3 shot group. I'm anxiously awaiting a no wind day! I know, I know...I've gotta get the group up in the bullseye. I'm aiming at the far right green ring in the center of target. So I just have to adjust up a ways with the scope.

Thanks guys!
The cool thing is, is that it takes me about 15 minutes to swap out barrels from .458 to .416. With the shouldered barrels the head spacing is already set. Remove stock, remove .458 barrel. Put on .416 barrel, put on stock. Done. The same Arrowhead plug can be used in both barrels. But I have one plug with a .040" bushings for the .458 And another plug with a .035" bushing for the .416

How tight do you tighten the barrels? Do you use a torque wrench?

How tight do you tighten the barrels? Do you use a torque wrench? edge. Nope. I put the barrel wrapped in a jar opener into a set of wood blocks in a vice and clamp it down. I thread the action onto the barrel and snug it up. Then I use a 1' piece of wood and slide it into the action opening and snug the action down. Redneck torque wrench...
