Hi guys I shot two does this weekend using this bullet. Doe #1 straight thru broadside. Hit one rib going in and one going out. No expansion at at all. Same size hole on both sides. She only ran 50 yards so the bullet done its job.
Doe #2 Sunday morning. 50 yard shot quartering to. Shot on front of shoulder and went right behind other shoulder. Did not exit. I found fragments of lead inside. The bullet came apart it looks like. I know I hit bone but I did not expect the bullet to come completely apart.
What do you guys think? Any similiar epxeriences?
I am shooting a CVA Optima V2 with 100 grains(volume) of Blackhorn 209.

That bullet has ALWAYS been the center of controversy. Some guys swear by them and others detest them with sin. Crazy! The important thing is you recovered both deer. The general consensus is always any bullet thru the vitals is a good one. Congrats on your deer.

In the meantime, you can opt for a more expensive similar model, or change gears to hollow points like Hornady XTPs, Barnes Expanders, leaded T/C Cheap Shots, Speer Deep Curled, Precision Extreme Elites.......etc....etc. I would not use any bullet I no longer trust. However, I do trust the Precision Extreme Elite 240gr 50/40 using 90 grains of Schuetzen Blackpowder. Same with my 195 gr Barnes Expander 50/40. I have not lost any deer with these two bullets yet...... in four instances.

We have never had any problems with that bullet but limited it to lung shots.

250 flex SST... I shot them some back in my smoker days. Same kind of experience but I'm a rib and shoulder shooter and all my hits with them were dead deer. Really prefer a FN type like XTP with smokers. They always did the job and never a question about performance. 10

Every deer I have shot with them has been dead. No complaints really. Just don't like the blow up of the bullet. If that would have been a 200 # mature buck then maybe it would not have penetrated as well. Who knows. I think I am going to Barnes next year or the 300 grain XTP. Thinking of going smokeless next year anyway.

I used the 250's a couple times as well as the 200 in my Omega (tested for the muzzleloader gunshop that I worked in), but usually used the 300 SST/Shockwave just because I like shooting heavier bullets. I can only say that it looked like all expanded fine (by the damage done) and I never did find a bullet or part of one in the deer. I can also say the same for the .430 300 grain XTP and the Speer .429 270 grain Gold Dot/Deep Curl.

The big issue is speed on these bullets. More problems shooting them smokeless at warp speed than where they are intended to at lower velocities. When the shot distance is out there a ways and they are slowed down, they work great.

Every bullet has a velocity window, if you are in it, then it should work as advertised, if out of it maybe not so good.

They are very accurate for me at the range and I have wanted to try them on deer but just can't do it cause of reports like yours. I shoot Barnes 250gr TEZ's in all my muzzleloaders for hunting and have had great results so far. This bullet was recovered from a large doe shot by my youngest son a few days ago, quartering too us about 110yds out (didn't think she was that far out, rangefinder battery died that morning) dropped on the spot . The bullet was found just under the hide on the opposite side and had cut through the hide from one of the sharp petals. Load was 70gr BH209 so the bullet was traveling slow at this point. Maybe give them a try on deer if your rifle likes them.
