I purchased a left over 10mlii recently and the breech plug tool and ball starter were not in the box neither was the manual, however I can print the PDF version from the savage web site. After reading and searching it seems to me I have to pull the bolt action out by loosening the back screw, and it seems that I may be lucky enough to have the 3/8 hex head breech plug. My rifle was manufactured 1 June 2011 if this helps. Any information is greatly appreciated as savage has still not gotten back to me ( going on 6 weeks tomorrow ).

I don't remember the year they changed from the 4 eared plug, but for your gun, pull the front trigger guard screw, remove the bolt and use a 3/8" socket. If your have a universal joint for sockets you can remove it through the loading port without removing the bolt.

I am only going by memory but by then I thought they were using the 3/8 hex head and not the old style slotted breechplug.

IIRC the hex head plug came out about the same time as the BassPro/Cabelas Savage ML-BP came out

Hopefully antiseize or tape was put on the breechplug and you have no problems getting it out. If not there are other methods to break it loose. Keep us posted.

Should it be that easy to take the breech plug out? I figured I would be fighting with it, but it was just snugged down good and broke free fairly easy. That was a pleasant surprise to say the least, I didn't even smack my scope.
