Left is 90 yrds BCR__________Center is 170 yards BCR sabot_____________right is smooth blue harvester 170 yards all 200sst 10/50 4759/4198 Thanks to all on this board in advance. Gun has about 50 shots on it, it shoots about 1.5 moa but at 170 yards group was 4-6” ( see targets pics) with 200SST knurled and BCR, 10/50 of 4759/4198. I think speed is 2640 fps. Killed several deer @ 100 yards but I now have some time next two weeks to try to improve accuracy. Goal- deer 200-300 yards. Figuring 8” kill zone, 50% margin of error 4” groups @ 300 yards , my goal is 1.3” MOA. Don’t’ need to push the limits, want an accurate reliable load not temp sensitive. DATA Converted Savage thumbhole .50 to .45 in October –now about 50 shots on barrel Barrel is .450 using pin gauges. Stock was bedded and barrel floated as a .50, no 3rd pillar Vent liner hole .033 Loading pressure Medium –one hand but firm 15 minutes between shots Best load 10/50 4759/4198 shoots 1.5”moa, but 4-6” @170 yards I have for powder 5744,4759,4198,322, N110 and lots of N120 I have enough 4759 for 500 duplex loads I have most all of the bullet used in the 45 and 50 Ideas/thoughts on where to start A- Sabotless – Is there any bullet I can try or just buy the die and get rid of the sabot. Do I need to go to a bushing plug to prevent vent liner wear? B- Sabots – the blue crush rib seem to work best, I bought tow boxes of harvestor 200 grain .40 bullets that come with the light blue sabot. I am assuming this is the about most are using but it loads easier that the blue crush rib. Is there a reason I don’t see much on the sabots other than Harvester. I have some from Hornady and Knight that would be a tighter fit. C- Cleaning/break in – haven’t cleaned yet but did last night. Should I use JB on the bore? How many shots before cleaning? D- Loads- rough idea on what loads/speeds will start to blow sabots? Most of my shooting will be below 40 degrees. Will putting a wad under help sabot /accuracy? E- Any other things that might help.

If I'm reading right, you are using the blue Crush Rib?
Try the same bullet and load with the smooth blue harvester.
May just surprise you, with sabots tight is good in my opinion.

Yes Don - I also thought tight is better but the smooth blue sabot I got with the Harvester bullets seem looser than the crush rib. Does harvester make more than one smooth blue sabot. Or do I have some old ones. Maybe I need to order some new smooth blue sabots when Luke gets back.

Try knurling up the bullet to get a snug fit and help the bullet grab the sabot.

How long are you waiting between shots? Are you indexing the Sabot? Try 60 gr of H4198. That is an awesome load for accuracy in all of my .45s with the HSB Sabot.

15 minutes between shots, I have been knurling up a couple thousands. groups are not horrible but it seems like most are getting better results.

My crush ribs are WAY looser loading than my smooth blues. Have never heard of it being the other way around.
In my Encores it takes super effort to get a smooth blue started and seated ( I've stretched and torn a few smooth blues trying it, and snapped a spinjag). I had to go to the crush rib in these guns and they load about perfect.

My Pac-nor barrel was not happy shooting saboted projectiles. I never really found a load that shot consistently. I was pretty bummed out until I went sabotless. That is where the whole package came together. I did find that a 250TEZ fit from pack to bore although a little tight. I started with the 10/50 4759/H4198 load and worked my way up to 10/60. Each time I increased the charge, the group got tighter. It shoots the 250 TEZ 10/60 load with an Eastern Maine unlubed wool wad and Winchester 209 primers into less than one inch at 200 yards. I have since purchased a Swing-Lock smooth die and have been sizing them on a setting of 4 which is only decreasing the diameter approx .00005 to .0001 in. With this load, I do advise a bushing plug as a Lehigh ventliner only lasts about 15 shots. The bushing I purchased measured less than .030, somewhere around .026 or .027. I lost a little accuracy to it but still manage to hold it under 1.5 in. at 300 yards. I am considering a .040 bushing. Just food for thought. Good luck

1.5 inches at 300 yards is excellent. Many have been listing some outstanding loads at distance, if all can make it to the KY shoot it should prove to be very interesting. Trigger pulling under pressure may prevail.
