Does anyone make a reasonable priced falling block action for a project. I have been researching the falling block for quite some time and I have come to the conclusion that falling block and reasonable are contradictions in terms.
Try the Dakota Model 10 and make sure you're sitting down.

I don't know if they sell just the action but EA Brown is the only thing that might be reasonable. Brownells no longer sells Ruger No1 actions or Dakota 10 actions.

There was a guy selling semi-finished forgings back in the 90s that IIRC were reasonably priced. Do not know what happenned to him.
I know of one machinist that made his own, the prints are out there somewhere.
Finding a modern 1885 Winchester or even a Remy rolling block at a decent price is hard. Browning, under Winchester licensing deal, is still making them even in more modern calibers like the 300 WSM. With a $1600 MSRP sticker on it. Chiappa and some of the other Italian makers are also making them. Winchester used the 1885 as test guns as recent as WWII.

I think the best option for a falling block is to find a good used donor gun. Still talking in excess of 700 to 800 bucks for a good one.
