My boy Jonathan lives with his mom and doesn't get to spend a lot of time with me (every other weekend). We get to shoot, fish, camp, and hunt together but it isn't as much as I'd like. Nebraska has a really cool youth program and it shows him to get two tags and hunt every season.
This morning we got up at 5am got ready and headed to the woods. I set a double bull blind up on Wednesday so deer could get use to it. We sat till 830 and since we had not seen anything I decided I'd show my boy how to still hunt. We worked our way into the wind and had a small for come in to about 30 yards but in thick cover. She finally realized what was going on and took off. So we continued on and worked over a hill with pasture to the south and saw a 150" eight point. Problem one on ground we didn't have permission to hunt on problem two it was running away. We continued on to a spot I knew the deer staged up as we got to the spot we spooked done deer out however I knew of we sat down they would come back. Luck would have it they sure did. Well my boy took a shot with his sml and not sure exactly what hairnet but he missed. Then the goofy deer ran ten yards stood there for a while and bedded down. Boy reloaded his sml but didn't push his bullet all the way down and had a miss fire. I didn't know what happened and neither did the deer. I asked of he wanted to shoot my gun and his eyes lit up. Got the gun in the rest and the deer was rolling down the ditch in no time. It was great seeing my boy get excited and I'll never forget this. Loving every minute of it. Also got my baby girl Alayna in it after the kill.
