New member. Have a Omega X7 w/laminate stock. Lots of trouble getting the hammer back with gloves.....it was 14 below here this morning. Googled and saw a post from thi site in 2010 where the author related that he had med rings on his .45 and .50 Omegas and had no trouble getting the hammer back. I don't know what a med ring is. Maybe someone can help. The rifle is otherwise a good shooter and I don't really want to put it down. Thanks

Medium means the height of the ring. Low, medium, high, extra high rings are available from most makers. Maybe you have lie rings making it a tight fit for you thumb to get to your hammer... Jeff.

They make hammer extensions. However some have reported broken hammers using those made of steel. I used one on my first Encore in "97".

At the range, i have adopted a habit of cocking the Omega hammer with my trigger finger. That works good for me; never do i ever use a thumb. All my Omega(s) have low rings; the low old style Weaver are really low. At the moment, i can't think of how i cock the hammer when hunting, but i am pretty sure i use my thumb, and cock the hammer whilst raising the rifle to my shoulder. If one would shoulder the rifle before cocking the hammer, then one could easily reach under the scope, and pull the hammer back with the trigger finger.

Thanks Jeff. It did finally dawn o ne that med rings meant medium height. Was having a senior moment there I guess. I too have been using my trigger finger which I can expose thru the split Palm of my glove but it is awkward. Taller rings would probably help but I don't think I'd care for that either. The comb of my stock is already low as it is.
Those who replied with hammer extension ideas never owned an Omega......no can do
