Well gentlemen I had the privilege of being a part in a special day for my long time friend and neighbor. Yesterday morning a small 6 point walked out on the edge of a cut bean field. He dialed up 54.25 moa and put it on his shoulder and squeezed it off. The deer dropped like a rock. About 45 min passed and we went out to look at him. The bullet had hit it right in the neck. He is using a Savage centerfire action with krieger barrel and Parker's new 270g E Max bullets pushed at around 2800fps. Here is a picture of Ronnie with his deer and the recovered bullet. 960 yards with a smokeless muzzloader. That's something very few people have done with a centerfire rifle much less a muzzloader.

I'm not allowed that far from home. Is that because of a leash or too many projects to finish up? ?

Wow that's crazy! My goal is to someday harvest one at 500. Congrats! After 60, my goal is to shoot one, have him field dress himself and place himself in the back of my vehicle...if he is mountable he should present with a good cape and the antlers removed with a fair amount of skull attached edge.

No doubt it was a good shot! Congrats! Evidently the wind gods were smiling upon him; plus he did his homework. Nice! Richard

Only a trained sniper could make that shot with confidence. What unit did you serve with? 20 yds misjudged and you would be too high or low. And yes, you hit the deer with a very low amount of energy but you hit the right spot either on purpose or by luck. Epic shot. Could you even see hornage?
Need to find a good spot on the grassy knoll. LOL

Richard you are right, there was absolutely no wind that morning
He is using the modified case
He did not serve in any military but he has been shooting all of his life and shooting long range for most of it.
This journey started 4 years ago when I stumbled on this site. Within a couple weeks of reading I had ordered a barrel and was in the process of building a SML. When I got mine built I showed Ronnie how well it shot. I remember shooting a 3 shot group at 300 yards that was about 2.5" while he was watching. He told me if I could shoot another one in that group and it not get any bigger he would walk in the house and call pacnor up and order a barrel. The next shot was right in the middle of the first 3. He turned around and walked off. Now he did not order a barrel that day but it was only a week or two later he bought a whole gun off of Richard. He used that gun with success and killed a doe that following year at over 400 yards. He has since sold that gun and built another one on a Krieger barrel. I got him started in it and he just took off. I spotted for him when he was testing his dial ups from 700-960 yards. He has built several rifles for friends and family and loves the sport. He has spent many hours on the phone with Bob Parker discussing bullets and was an instrumental part of the creation of Parker's new E-Max bullet. The first batch that was made he had them testing them out. He has spent countless hours for this moment to happen and I am so proud. It really could not have happened to a better guy. Like it was said before there was lots and lots of time and money invested in this harvest. It was not a spur of the moment decision to try the shot. This was a lot of hard work and dedication to pull off a shot like this.

I bet a lot of hours of preparation and homework were done to make it. At that distance, a quarter up or down could have been a miss. Congrats on a very precise shot.
