Depends...what barrel you using? Myself I have a Bullberry 1"full bull barrel using petes pa machine plug. Like it a lot i am shooting 56gn of h4198 a 2p0gnsst and a light blue harvester sabot ...bery devisating . Some use the savage plug and 45/70 barrels...most didnt have enough meat on them for my preference...might be somewhat questionable on hot sabotless loads. Kralik jr has.same barrel and savage plug shooting I believe 79gn h4198 and a 275gn MH. Personally I wouldnt try that on a slimmer profile barrel

IMO, I would PM 45omega, he has these Encores figured out and knows all the ins and outs on them. I'm sure he will gladly steer you in the right direction.

You need a 45-70 barrel and a Savage breech plug for the conversion. Send Slufoot a PM to get a price for the plug install then send just the barrel, plug and check to Slufoot. Wait a week to get it back and start shooting.

I have two Bullberry Pacnors in 45/70 that I had converted by Slufoot with a Savage plug. I have been shooting 70gr of H4198 or 10/60 4759/H4198 with a 300MH and now the 310APB. I did full 1" out 8" from breech then straight taper to .850 at muzzle. Got a 26 " with muscle brake and a 24" without. Have been shooting this for 3 yrs with very good results. Longest kill was 556yds with the 26". I also have two Bergaras that Slufoot converted for me. Same setup, 45/70 with Savage plug. I shot a little sabotless with one. 250gr BE with 60gr H4198 did pretty good but mainly use them for my girls. 34gr 4759 with a 195 Barnes lightly knurled and light blue Harvestor. Flippin' deadly. I am shooting more than some recommend out of the Encore Pacnors. I am comfortable shooting it but would not go any higher. I also did a 45* crown on all my barrels. That I love. Good luck. Jr

It just needs to be a 45-70 barrel for a TC Encore.

That's the easiest way, and probably the fastest. Depends on what you want. Bullberry has been mentioned, and there's also SMI (personally at this point I think I would avoid them - seems their quality and customer service has really taken a dive). Last you can order a barrel from MGM as well. That's what I did and I'm really happy with it. How much do you want to spend and how long do you want to wait?

I ordered a 26 inch .458 muzzleloader barrel (full contour) tapped for a T/C plug for my Encore from MGM on 10/29. I called them today about an invoice and Robin told me she though the barrel was shipping today. So that is pretty fast. I ordered a replacement BP from PR for the smokeless. They only have the 458 in 1/14 twist. Don

Ill second Jeff's conversion mine is on an H&R and it rocks , The primer holder is definitely the best idea out there for the large rifle primer .No fumbling around tryin to grab a 209 or some little dinky plastic holder , stands right up there for u to grab with ur fingers and set another on . I fully recommend his work.

I am sending the plug away after the season to have either a vent or bushing installed.

I know where I can get my hands on an Encore pretty cheap and I'm liking your results. Wondering if it's feasible for me?

If you have a line on a MGM or Bullberry that was threaded for an Encore breech plug to use a PA Pete breech plug the PR LRMP breech plug is a direct replacement. Cost is $59.95 for the PR breech plug and 10 carriers plus $3.95 shipping from EA Brown. There are a good many people with the skills and tools to add a vent liner or bushing for a small fee.

If you are thinking of going with a Bullberry you have a big lead time in front of you. I ordered a Bullberry in February and received it in early October. I then shipped it off to Hankins Custom Rifles for the conversion. I also sent a couple of barrel drops to have adjustable sizing dies made. I'm still waiting to get it back from Jeff. It's hunting season so I'm sure he is back logged with work.
It's been a long process but I'm sure I'll be happy when I get it back. I was hoping to have it for this season but it sure didn't work out that way.
