It was 27 degrees with a real feel of 12 when I got to the range. Mainly wanted to get it on paper and make sure it went bang and check on fired primers. I fired the first shot at 100yds and it clipped the left edge of the target. A scope adjustment was made and a three shot group fired with 200gr SST's, Eastern Maine 36cal wool wad, and 72gr H4895. I went to check target then went and sat in the truck to warm my hands up. Next three shot group was with 74gr H4895. By the time I got to the 3rd shot in this group the fingers were freezing. When I squeezed shot 3 I knew I was just below the bull. It's going to take more shooting to get use to the target accutrigger. Its the first trigger I've ever had to up the pull weight on. Its still very light but I'm liking it!! The set up. 100yd targets 209 bolthead Some fired Win209's. They all came out spotless. Savage Slufoot modified plug with primer seat. Old .030 bushing. Thanks Slufoot!! Blasted action to match barrel.

Alright, I will give you $200 for it. Looking good! Trigger pull weight? Nice clean primers and great shooting! Nice breezy day to break it in.

So it feels more like a two stage trigger?

The accutrigger inner trigger pull is almost unnoticeable and the target triggers are barely more than that. I have a target action collecting dust on a shelf that is 7oz out of the box, they are very light and good feeling to boot. The only part that worries me is if you bump the trigger before the inner trigger is depressed it jumps into a safety sear block and the bolt has to be worked again to recock. I haven't ran one with a gloved hand yet to see if this poses an issue, I haven't heard of others complaining either.

The target action trigger goes from 6oz to 2.5 pounds if I recall correctly. I was concentrating on pulling back the red accutrigger straight. Once it went all the way back it was boom. I did adjust it up some but its probably under a pound still. This is my first Accutrigger gun. This will mainly be a bench gun. I'll be going to a higher magnification scope soon but the Leupold VXR 3-9x50 will work for now. I don't think I would want to shoot this with gloves on

Good shooting buddy, and I like your gun. I will give you 400.00 for it The groups are great and the second group would have been a one holer if it not had been for your daintier fingers getting cold. Use a pair of glove and take the trigger hand one off just before you shoot.

Awesome gun and awesome first trip to the range. Everybody should know by now who gets your hand me downs... Someday I will be trying one of those triggers out as well. Maybe sooner than later....

nice shooting, that DNZ lets the scope get close to the barrel it appears.

Great looking ml, and shooting. With some warm fingers you will have some nice 1 hole groups. Looks like it was worth the wait. What length barrel did you go with? looks a little longer in the pic.

Same question: barrel length and velocity?

Barrel was ordered as 25", large shank.
Speed is in the 2800fps range.

Finally found my tape measurer. From the action the barrel measures 24 1/4". A little over 25" with threads. Some who saw the side by side pic of both my 40's in the build section thought it was longer but the Savage short action is longer then the Rem 700 action.

Looks too big and heavy for your liking, let me know when you're tired of it.

Looks too big and heavy for your liking, let me know when you're tired of it. It is on the heavy side but you ain't getting it It does balance nice and would work good out of my blind sitting on the Caldwell Deadshot Field Rest.

Beautiful gun and great first outing! Sure to only get better from here.
When shooting in the cold I wear super thin gloves and keep a hand warmer in my pocket to grab onto every chance I get

I went out again this morning. I took a hand warmer It was around 25deg with some wind. Not the best shooting but I will be switching to a duplex to tighten things up next trip. Both groups shot at 100yds on 9x. I fired one shot at 200yds with a 195mz at a clay bird that somebody had left out. I held right on top of it and watched it break when the trigger was pulled. 7 fired primers from today. They come out of the 209 bolthead with a flick of the finger.

I had forgot about recovering a 195mz from the frozen dirt mound behind the target. You can see the rifling engraved in the bullet all the way around from a single powder load. I dug around a little for a CEB but they must have been burried deeper.

Well I found out I had 3 loose action screws the other day. Guess I should have checked them when I got it back from being bedded I threw a WCE 4-16x50 on the gun and hit the range this morning. Horrible day to shoot. Foggy with light rain but I was at least undercover. I got it on paper with 72gr charges and shot one group. Went to 75gr and they pulled tighter. Just a little bigger then a nickel Ohioguy Loads appeared safe in my barrel. Primers clean, no bulging.
