How do you bh 209 shooters clean your barrels and do you do it each time right after you shoot?

My rifles are cleaned when i arrive home every time after the rifle has been shot. First, two dry patches are used, in and out, after the breech plug is removed. The first patch only on one side, the second on both sides. Then a patch soaked with solvent is run back and forth in the barrel. Then a brush wrapped with a patch is pushed into the breech plug threads, and unscrewed out. Then a dry patch is run in the barrel. Then another dry patch is run in the barrel, both sides. The rifle then is either put away, or put back into service.

Ron's method of running a dry patch first is how I start also. It will get rid of the heavy fouling and make clean up easier using whatever solvent you use for your centerfire rifles. I always run a lightly coated patch of Montana Extreme Bore Conditioner after the bore has been cleaned.

What you all do between shoots at range? Same dry patch then wet then dry?

I don't normally swab at the range when using BH209.

I use alcohol on the patches instead of a solvent. When they come out clean, I dry patch the bore then I run a patch down the bore with "Johnson's Paste Wax" and put the gun away until next time. It works for me. At the range I just keep shooting, no need to clean between shots. Good luck out there. BOB

Bob , how many shots can you shoot without cleaning and still maintain accuracy Honestly, I don't know! I have documented 12 shots in a row, that's my personal maximum, but all the loads went down the bore smoothly with no signs of needing the bore cleaned and no decrease in accuracy, from first to last. Do clean the gun when you get it home, but IMHO it's just not necessary while shooting. BOB

Before I store any of my rifle including my muzzleloaders I use Iosso Bore Cleaner, spelled with a capital i. It's the best cleaner out there. Give it a try, clean your rifles till your patches comes out white, without a hint of fowling. Run a patched jag through your barrel a few times with Iosso bore cleaner and it will come out as black as when you started with your favorite cleaner.

I never use a jag to clean my barrels after range or hunting. I always use a wire brush, to get into spots a jag cannot reach.
I will look into your cleaner...... thanks.
