Hasn't rained here in 3 weeks but the forecast shows 80% chance of rain first day of ML season. Is it ok to put a balloon over barrel to keep rain out? Is it also ok to shoot with balloon in place? Will this change POI?

I use a finger off of my rubber gloves and shoot with it on. Never noticed any effect with shots under 100 yds. If I have a long shot and have the time I will take it off. The few times I have shot deer I never noticed any problem but then if it was off a inch or so I probably would not have known for sure anyway.

I always use electrical tape on my muzzle. Keeps muzzle clean and dry, and I know it's loaded! No issues shooting thru it either. Butch

I agree tape would be easier. But I have a brake so the ballon seems like the way to go with the brake on. I may take brake off. Haven't decided yet. My shoulder says keep brake on but never feel recoil when the adrenaline is up and crosshairs are on a buck.

When that bullet starts up the bore, it is creating so much air pressure that I believe the balloon, tape, cod or whatever you put on, has been blow off prior to the bullet even touching it! Richard

Plastic wrap with a rubber band. Just shoot thru it.

Richard That's my belief too. I need to go shopping later today and I'll look for the finger cots. Electrical tape doesn't stick so well when it's cold out. I've been using electric tape and haven't noticed a change in accuracy. I like having a muzzle protector on the gun when hunting because it helps me remember that it's already loaded.

Richard Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I normally use the fingers off of latex gloves and sometimes they are blown off and sometimes the end is completely ripped away and just a ring of latex is still on the barrel. Either way I suspect that the latex yielded before the bullet got there and presented no resistance or affected accuracy. Without some high speed photography it would be hard to say for sure edge.

Went to Walgreens. Picked up 2 boxes of assorted finger cots. They worked great. Was enough to roll over and completely cover my muzzle break. Only thing I noticed was when I took it off the SS there was what appeared to be rust but it was stained by the latex I guess. It sure was tough to get it removed!
But my powder stay dry ! Didnt get the opportunity to fire it but I'm sure it would work like advertised.
