Finally ready to shoot my Rem/McGowen. I wanted the McGowen barrel just so I could shoot the 290's without having to resize them - just some knurling. I know Richard has had great results with his clays/4198 duplex but Clays or Reddot are impossible to find here in Virginia. I would really like to shoot a single powder like H4198 or N120 if possible but I do have 4759, 5744 and n110 for duplexing if needed. If anyone shoots this bullet with success would you please share you load info with me - especially from a McGowen? Thanks.
Barry

Check out PTs 45H, 46H, 47H, 48H, 49H, and 50H. I have not shot the 290 gr T-EZs yet. I have been using the 250 gr T-EZ out of my McGowens with very good results for the last 3 years. The 290 gr T-EZ is on my list to try. I will be interested to see what loads your gun likes.

I've been messing around with 31h and 290 tez and 275 barnes 460 bullets. Last week got three to touch at 100 yds which is luck because I'm not that good! I have to size both them to get them down my McGowan barrel. Otherwise they get too tight for me about 1/3 the way down.

Sorry if I missed it, but you didn't say anything about weather or not your using sabots. If indeed your shooting WITHOUT sabots as I suspect based on your statement about sizing, be careful knurling if using two files to do so, as members here have reported ruining their barrels shooting sabot-less because pieces of file broke off and lodged in the bullet they shot and this resulted in serious damage to their barrels. If you are planning on using sabots or have a knurling tool that won't in-bed steel chips while knurling bullets, then you should be OK.

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the ruined barrel and die was an isolated incident. I have knurled hundreds of bullets for my .40 and .45's a small amount with no issues. I can see the possibility of problems trying to knurl a .450-.451 bullet to .458.

I have a Stevens 200 SA with a 45 McGowan barrel and I shoot the 290gr TEZ. I use 69gr of IMR4198 a lubed wad and a .451 290gr TEZ unsized and a win 209 primer. And the gun is zeroed at 200yds.

I believe guppy shoots 73 gr of H4198 with that bullet. Do a search using his name. The last posts that I remember seeing from him were from last December.
