I am open to suggestions for the best powder to use with 250 and 300 grain saboted bullets in this short barreled 50 caliber rifle. I also have a number of 435 grain White Shooting Star saboted bullets that I would like to shoot in this rifle. Any and all advice accepted respectfully.

I would stick with a fast burner like N110, SR4759 or AA5744. I suspect you will find complete burn in that barrel length if you stay around book load charge levels.
I'm have no idea on the heavy bullet though.

I suspected that the faster burners would be good. I looked in the archives for 400-500 grain bullets and found suggested powders but all were slow burners. I have all three of the powders you mention and have used them in the 24 inch barreled rifles with satisfactory results. I know a guy on this board built a Savage Striker with 15 in barrel and used 4227 but I don't want to chance it not firing in cold weather.

Under that heavy a bullet a slow burner may act like a fast burner. Hopefully someone will be able to help you out here.

You might check you laws on barrel length. I know that in Iowa the barrel needs to be 18" long to be legal. 16"just sounds to short to me to get any range out of a muzzle loader.

Cuda,
There is no restriction on barrel length for muzzleloaders being 18". As long as your muzzleloader barrel is 16" or longer you are golden in Iowa. I believe you are thinking of shotguns which do require 18". Iowa law follows federal restrictions of 16" long guns and 18" shotguns.
