How and what are you guys annealing your bullets with and when shooting full form does the bullet diameter have to be .458 to start with on a 45 cal.? Thanks

If you have a ,458/.450(ish) barrel and want to shoot .458s, you have to full form size them. You can still FF size .451 class bullets but the engraving will be very faint. You can like others knurl them up in size then run them through the FF die as well.
For solid coppers to anneal I used an electric range stove top. Lined the bullets up on the coil, cranked to high and let them sit for 20 minutes. They were glowing red. Knocked them into a pan of water to cool and flash the oxidation off of them, they went through the die with half the effort after annealing and shot very well. The were .458s.

What brand of .458's were you using to anneal with?
Also couldn't a guy get a 45ACP barrel that is .442/.450 and then be able to full form the Parkers and such?

Fill the bottom two trays full of cold water, line your bullets up on the top bar, heat them glowing red with a burnzomatic, once they are glowing red, turn the handle and dump them into the cold water, repeat, when the water gets too warm or the first tray gets too full, dump it into the bottom tray for storage and refill your first tray with cold water and keep goin... Just one way of doing it with a homemade contraption.. 458 probably gives you best results for full forming in a 45 (450-452) get better grooves in the bullet, as stated 451 and 452 bullets can be knurled up some then full formed, prob not getting as good as impressions into the bullet like a 458 would, but it does work as rrat is doing it. Rambler, there are several .442 full form guns around so you are correct.

I heat mine on the stove coils also. Then I just turn the stove off and let them air cool. I dip them in "the works" toilet bowl cleaner to remove the ash.

At the time I was experimenting and using the 250 gr barnes .458 hollow points for the 45/70. As for the 45 acp barrel, yes, you can, and I put a lot of thought into doing just that before deciding to order the .458 pacnor from Luke. Him having it in stock and immediately available was a big part of my decision.

Lot of talent on this board, it's like going into a hardware store. rambler, the die I bought from Luke was 1-smooth and 1-full form, when I ordered the barrel from him he already had the drop for the full form die.

I think whether or not you'll need to anneal solid coppers if FFing will be dependent on your press capabilities. I was able to get the .458 barnes through without annealing, but I was right on the edge of what the press could take. Annealed they went through with half the effort. This particular bullet has relief grooves which probably helped.
Shooting them both annealed and not, they shot about the same, under moa at 100 yds.

That bore is what Earnhardt has been shooting the parkers at 500yds recently full form.....

I've got a couple 45p Pacnors that are 22 twist. They still need contoured but they are gonna make some nice builds I hope! Gonna get some 18 twist also as I like them for the 300's and up.
