Ohiodude: such cool shooting brings questions to mind. Describe your new gun holding method? Oh, I see you did. So your grip on the forearm is just loose without pressure in any direction? What was the ignition system and loading pressure? What do you think your speeds were? Thanks for sharing.

What was the ignition system and loading pressure? What do you think your speeds were? Thanks for sharing. I'm not even holding the forearm, I shoot lefty, so my only grip is with my left hand, I just kind of been pulling the gun in snug to my shoulder with my left hand, I'm just wrapping my right arm underneath the back of the gun and kind of holding light pressure on my left elbow and rear bag with my right arm and hand. The forearm and front of the gun are untouched, just letting it shove me back when it recoils. (I used to have a very tight grip on the forearm with my right hand and pull back and down hard as I could, This new "Fairly Free Floating Grip" has seemed to get me to shoot much better, cause I'm by no means a bench rest guy... I'm shooting the old style .030 savage bushing plug with Federal 209 primers, the unsized 275 BE's probably go down with 30#ish of pressure, the unsized 275 MH's go down with probably 20#ish of pressure, the 275 Match Hunters I knurled up and then smooth sized, I would say go down with 40#ish of pressure, very snug but I was able to get them down with 2 hands and not have to hammer them. (The sized MH's are what gave me the best group yesterday). I am guessing the 10/60 - N110/H322 load should get me around 2600fps, give or take a few. (11/59 normally gets me 2650ish) The speeds could be a little higher than I anticipate because of the increased loading pressure, last year when we chronographed the 11/59 I had very light loading pressure and got 2650ish... Time to buy a chrony....I know

In the thread about shooting styles that would be defined as "free recoil". Very interesting. I plan to give it a try next time I get out. I've always been a "hard hold" kind of guy.

OG nice avatar! Is that what a 160" deer actually looks like? I've seen reports of them looking much smaller.

Hey Guy... Is the .392/.400 primarily used with full formed bullets?.....the .400/.408 for smooth sizing?...I would have me a 40 cal in a heartbeat if Nebraska would let me...thanks Zen

The .400/.408 is knurl .400 bullets to fit and go. I am going to get a .40 cal smooth die so I can knurl up beyond my bore size then smooth size back down to get what I want consistently. Shame you can not use the 40 cals in your home state... they are fantastic to shoot. If it would cool down some I'd get out and shoot mine a bit.

Nice rifles....yeah Nebraska has some strange regs...you can hunt with a musket ball.62 cal or larger or a hand thrown spear but you can't hunt with .40 cal going 2900 fps...go figure Zen
