Well I made it out to do some shooting to test the savpac .392 some more and burn some bullets in the hillbill Mcrem .45 It was windy as all he-double-L to say the least, so my results were quite surprising and I turned out the best three shot group I've ever fired! Here was the set up. Pic nic table and Caldwell front rest and rear bags, target set at 105 range finded yards. First up was the Savpac .392, the first three shots are to the right, scope adjustment and the second group is to the left. These were 10/66 - N110/Varget, wool wad, Fed primer. No cool down time was given between shots, and it was the first time I tried this load. Then it was on to the McRem .45, this started out on a totally clean gun. The first shot (fouler) went high and center, then the next four are in a cluster to the left. This load was 275 BE, .060 veggie wad, 12/58 - N110/H322. 4 shot group was just under 1/2". Then I tried the ole faithful 11/59 - N110/H322, .060 veggie wad,Fed primer, 275 MH unsized. 3 shots in under 1/2". Happy Happy Then came the 10/60 - N110/H322, Fed primer, wool wad, 275 MH Knurled up then smooth sized down. I shot the first three (which are to the left) with exactly 8 min of cool down time between shots, all I can say is WOW! pics show that a MH covers the three shot group, IDK how you'd measure that?? After the 3 shot group was shot, I was running out of time because of a storm blowing in, so I loaded and shot 4 more of the same loads as fast as I could to see what happened, like Josh has stated, as the barrel heated up, they climbed up too. The barrel was cooking after these 7 shots. So for shooting off a picnic table, in darn near tornado type winds, I had the best group of my life. I did get wet trying to pack and load up, so I didn't completely beat the storm... For almost not even going due to the weather and dealing with it once I got there, What a day and I'm glad I went! How's that for ya hillbill?? Talk about a wallet group and it was with your gun..

Oh yeah cut that 3 shot group out and carry it in the wallet I'm glad the .392 is working out for you. Great shooting!! That's definitely a WV shooting set up. It works so don't change a thing.

Ohioguy Nice shooting and we have a new functioning candidate in the ML club. Time to start building some memories with it out in the field instead of the backyard. Ed

What a jank funnel and usually three shot groups look like that when the second and third miss the board. JMHO

I told ya this gun was gonna shoot once I got them match hunters all the same size! It still shoots sub MOA with out of the box unsized bullets too! It really likes Dave's N110/H322 Duplex loads, thanks to him for turning me on to that as well...

Ohioguy,
Impressed is an understatement.
Good table manners and Bill's attention to detail don't hurt.
Bill don't let on much but I'll bet he was mighty happy to see one of his builds shoot that good!

Duct tape the gun to the table and you can market it as the Hillbilly Leadsled with those kind of results.

That's funny right there Oh he's funny alright... (He got the Hillbilly part right for sure....) Surprised he didn't bust my you know what for shooting Left handed and having a crooked scope, like he normally does.. I did something different the last couple range trips compared to what I used to do and I completely credit it to shooting better this year. I owe it to deadeye and a few others for mentioning it. I used to hold on to the gun with both hands and squeeze, pull, hold down and do everything I could to get the gun as tight to me and the bench as I could, the problem with that is, how consistent was I being with the technique? Probably not consistent at all. After Ed, I believe started the topic of grip and how we hold the gun on the bench, I keyed in on some of the replies. Now I have been just getting a firm grip/squeeze/pull with my trigger hand and my free hand just wraps under and around to support my trigger arm and the rear bag and I let the gun do it's thing... I believe it has helped me substantially, that combined with a lucky day, it's my story and I'm sticking to it. (The Dave W duplex doesn't hurt and neither does some perfectly sized Match Hunters for consistency) Thanks for the comments from all.. Soon I hope to post some groups like that with the .392 also, not counting on ever being able to repeat a one holer like that but it sure would be nice...

I'd call that a 'soft hold' . Very nice shooting and good looking gun. I think the chair played a big role lol

Be careful not to break that chair. It would be hard to find a replacement as I think they stopped making them in the 70's. The .392 will shoot just as tight. You'll get a wallet group one day with it also.

You'll get a wallet group one day with it also. Funny you mention the chairs age, because you're not far off, that is a chair that survived from the old camp we used to have and I wouldn't doubt that chair had been there since the 70's, my fat a..is definitely stressing it to the max!I agree the .392's will get there too, it's early in the game for them yet and I've only began to experiment with them, I haven't even broken out the CEB's yet! This one is off to a good start already, just have to make a few tweaks/adjustments. For anyone wondering, the .40 cal is MUCH more pleasant to shoot compared to the .45

Nice... If I could shoot like that, I wouldn't have to carry this man purse to fit my "wallet" groups.

Thanks fellas. deadeye, you're loose grip/let the gun do what it's going to do has really helped me it seems. Luke, you have to have some credit too, you have contributed to both these rifles and I never shot a one holer til you hooked me up with that die...

deadeye and Luke just want more competition at the next shoot. I don't think I can hang with some of these guys the way they shoot consistently, but it'd be fun shooting. Maybe I can place in the Duplex division... or maybe even the shotgun division, there I may stand a chance.. and maybe, just maybe, I'll show up with a completely new build of a different character...
