Well I finally got some Parkers. I stayed with the same 73 gr load of IMR 4198 its be working well. The 270 went down the barrel great on a clean barrel without sizing #2 was tight but went down. The first shot out of a clean barrel went dead center. This barrel has been excellent for not throwing shots on a clean barrel.
second shot touched the first one at 100 yards. Don't over look a Douglas barrel for a muzzle loader build. I shot Krieger's on all my 1000 yard guns . But this Douglas is very smooth and uniform from one end to the other.
Since it showed me the load was going to shot I dialed 8.5 moa up on my scope and shot #3 at a metal gong at 415 yards. I hit the gong almost dead center. This is a turkey size gong for Silhouette. So its not all that big.
#4 also hit center mass. Parker says the B.C. is .372 at 2850fps. I believe that is pretty close. there a lot of variables when you factor in bullet drop. The Hornady Bal chart called for 8.0 moa at 400 Yrds so I would say its works out to .372 BC.
The bullets went down the barrel to hard once the barrel was fired so I came home an sized them down to .45025 this gave a good snug fit. I don't plan on cleaning the barrel now till after hunting season. I installed a new vent liner and a brass washer ahead of my breech plug. the S/S 8MM washers are working good I want to see how long a new vent liner and brass washer will last. The brass may seal a little better because it has some crush to it when you tighten the plug. This old vent liner had opened up to .036 and it still was shooting good so I don't know how far I can go with my plug and a 215 mag primer. It may like a larger hole .
My next test will be at ranges out to 800 yards. we have some metal swingers at our 1000 yard range. I don't think the 270 will be a good bullet at 1000 yards I told Bob Parker that I might try a few at 1000 if they showed accuracy at the shorter ranges. He felt the 300 MH or 325MH would work better I believe he is right about that.
