To all our Canadian brothers and sisters: My sincere condolences on today's attacks. I think I can speak for all Americans in saying we stand beside you, this will not get the best of us.
Stay frosty.

I don't think it was an attack on the British Empire. As a Canadian citizen Canada's answering to the queen is only symbolic!

Thank you for your thoughtful comments.
Canada is not isolated from possible terrorist attacks and I’m surprised we have not dealt with more. This incident is still under investigation to determine whether it was a terrorist attack or not. If not well this country has its crazies also.
We all live in a time of unrest in this world where peace and freedom are threatened. This threat does not come from another country but a floating militant group that crosses all boundaries to inflict us with these attacks. I don’t know how the free nations of this world will eventually deal with this because you can’t pinpoint an exact location to confront the threat. We are constantly on the defensive and by diligence try to intercept threats before they are carried out. Hopefully by some form of unification in a cause to halt this type of invasion into our backyards we can at least put some restraint or barrier to terrorism.

All people need to be prepared to defend themselves and not be a herd of sheep awaiting slaughter. This is difficult to do with all the restrictions on law abiding citizens. These restrictions do not apply to criminals, jihadists on the mentally ill. They will ignore the restrictions. Heck, many of these people look forward to dying!
If 1 out of 10 people were ALWAYS carrying a weapon EVERYWHERE they went, someone might be able to do something about a "lone wolf" in a mall with a gun and 100's of targets and bullets.
GUN FREE ZONES: What a joke and what a perfect place to carry out an attack. You go there knowing 99.9% you will not be challenged. Schools, Gov't building etc. Either stop the foolishness of these gun free zones or put a formidable armed presence in them to protect the people who are not allowed to protect themselves.
I do not live in a city. But I do kinda work in a gun free zone....my place of employment does not allow weapons on the premises. So, for 9-10 hrs a day I am vulnerable to "workplace violence". This bothers me because I work with MANY people who are upstanding hunters and gun enthusiasts that could very quickly transform into a defense against an armed person going crazy at work. I also work with people that are "sketchy" that I wonder about. People who come in late, people who get written up for this or that, people that are disgruntled, and people who have been and or will be fired.
Nothing trumps on on site, subtle defense of an armed society IMO where a bad person has no idea what challenges await his attack.
But no....in this country we have demonized guns and people who use them legally.

It WILL be the areas that firearms have been taken from that ISIS will target no doubt.....thank your politicians and OBAMAdumass....The mass murderers already know that scenario.....Us southerners ain't gonna go down that road.....Bring it Isis you won't make it back and you will go to Hell in a hand basket....

Thank you kindly for your thoughts and prayers. It was definitely a tense and hectic day here in Ottawa yesterday. My thoughts and prayers go out to Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and his family. Thanks goes out to Kevin Vickers who took the gunman down inside Parliament's centre block. I can't find the words that accurately describe how I feel about these cowardice random attacks on unsuspecting soldiers...Anger would be one. The worst part is that the people carrying out these acts are known to authorities yet nothing can be done until they act. You can’t arrest someone for having radical thoughts I’m told...maybe this should change!?
Cheers Allan

You never really hear much about Canada with all of the conflict going on around the world. Canada is usually quiet, not saying that they do not help in world matters. I feel bad for those who have been touched by this act and hope that time will quickly heal your wounds. I have now been waiting on my CCW permit for almost 10 months. In fact it will be ten months on 10/26/2014, I personally have grown wary and restless with all of the stuff going on. I live in a rural part of New York State and don't really believe I need to fear an attack. However you never know any more too many psycho's and copy cat's out there.

What kind of rationale was behind that thinking. I can only imagine how helpless the other soldier felt after seeing his comrade go down and he right there holding a rifle with no ammunition!!

IMO, you have a man basically just "posing" as a soldier and making him a target for anti government nuts and then give him no way to protect himself or his fellow soldier or countrymen. I bet the citizens of Washington DC would die of old age before they can get a firearm, even after Heller, but you can bet your a$$ Obam, the Speaker, and the Senate Majority Leader security don't go out without their guns loaded! edge.

Sargent at Arms in both the US House and Senate have arrest powers and usually that means you can carry and from what I've heard they usually do or have it close. Both SAAs are 2/3 of the board for the Capital Police or basicly police commisoners. The SAAs usually come up from a LEO, Capital police, Secret Service background.
From what I understand the congressional members personal protection details (bodyguards) are usually Capital police even outside of the capital.

Yeah "Guard" and "UNARMED" just don't go together well in a sentence....lol...And the government wants to disarm us.....The armed can fight armed bad people..Unarmed can't ..What part of that concept is hard to grasp...?
