I bought one of Jeff's dies and have some 275 XPB barnes and 290 TEZs sized down. Tomorrow I plan on going to the range and I want to re-check my load choice.
I plan on trying:
34h which is 5744/3031 10/70. On the 310gr it is listed at ~40k psi. I should be fine with the lighter 275/290 bullet right?
I also was hoping to find something with 5744/H4198. The only I could find is 10h which is 5744/H4198 15/50. But it was 50k with 300gr bullet. I was trying to stay in the under 45K range just to stay on the safe margin. Does anyone have any 4198 suggestions for the 275-290 bullet range?
Last week I shot my gun for the first time using 70H and it worked good. I tried a straight load of 4198 with the 195 in a blue harvester and it did not produce the same sound as the duplex. I thought it was actually the famous "puff" shoot.
The gun is a standard mcremmy.

I have not had much success with land riding all coppers. The sst/ftx along with the Parker's give good performance as land riders. Hope you have better luck than me with the coppers. I believe they need to be tight and annealed to shoot their best. The loads you mention should be good though.

I haven't duplexes with the 5744, but I do shoot the. Barnes TEZ 250 with 10/50 SR4759/H4198.
I know this is not the same as the 290, but maybe it will be of some help.
What kind of velocity are you looking for in that load? My MacRem is good out to 300 with the load above. I also put a light knurl on them and use a wool wad.

Check out 45H, 46H, 47H, 48H, and 49H. TG PTed them for me. I like 71E. That is the load that I used last year and will again this year. Recoil is very tolerable.

The 290gr TEZ are .451 and they load nice into my 45 McGowan Stevens with no sizing at all. I use 69gr to 70gr of IMR4198 with a lubed wad and a Winchester 209 primer. What size is your barrel?
