I've sold all of my compound crossbows and now have a Matrix 380 & 405. That's it for a while. Both are set up with aftermarket(Boo strings/silencers)strings, Optimizers/Duralyt 2-8, 2.5# TT dual stage triggers, 18" Zombies, AL inserts, helical Blazers, Xbow Trick Broadheads(175g), and plastic moon nocks. They are both grouping the same: appx 1 1-2 " @ 100 yds with field points and 2 - 2 1/2" with the Xbow Tricks(4 blade 1 1/8" cut).
Why recurve xbows? 1) More accurate than almost every compound xbow (possible equal might be certain Scorpyds), 2) never need timing, 3) no dealer service needed, 4) all customer service with Danny Miller over phone, 5) always shoot the same:hang it up 2 months and point of impact varies none!!, shoots the same cold, hot, whatever, 6) virtually no limb problems ever, 7) can change your own strings and they are economical, 8) there is a vast # of aftermarket support for upgrading the Excals to whatever level one wants to go, 9) resale stays very high - life time warranty , 10) they are simple, 11) can be made very quiet with the proper changes. Yes, even the 380/405 can be as quiet as a SZ 350! , 11) is fast! In it's silenced condition, my 380 is shooting a 401g arrow @363'/sec , and the 405 is shooting 391'/sec with the same arrow. 12) Though I can easily cock the 380 with the string cocker, the 405 is a little more challenging. I only carry a rope cocker with the 405 hunting, but use the excellent C-2 cocking aid when practicing/setting up. 13) Compound xbows come and go, become outdated, break, etc, but Excals seem to just become vintage and never loose their appeal. Just ask anyone how they feel about their 15 year old Vortex, etc. Anyway, these 2 xbows should do me for possibly the rest of my life. . But then, Excal will surely enter into the smaller, lighter is better realm, that is the trend, and offer a very compact, very light, moderate speed330-340'/sec , xbow soon. This will be the carbine version while the 380/405 will be the bean field versions.
