Yes, put a barrel and breech plug in/on it that will handle smokeless powder.

The least expensive way to do it. Buy an encore 45-70 barrel and have it threaded for a breech plug. I have had one for several years. It works great.

Contact Slufoot on the smokeless board. He can do the job for you.

Cheapest way at the moment is to buy a Bergara 45/70 barrel,a savage breech plug and send them to Slufoot.MGM and Bullberry are the custom barrel makers. Jeff Hankins can also convert a barrel and he has a very good system for ignition.

welcome jyale! this is the place for information on smokeless muzzleloading. Lots of information on shooting modern smokers too. All of the above posts are pertinent. Hang about, lurk, read and search threads, ask questions and you will get the hang of SML. Again welcome, but please be safe. I personally have been present at 3 different catastrophic gun failures and it is not good. One of the failures was with a traditional caplock shooting black powder. With firearms even a small lapse or mistake can have very serious consequences. I don't mean to lecture about safety but it is very important and can have serious bad outcome if trivialized. Is there a safe way to shoot smokeless powder in a TC Encore ML? If the barrel/breechplug was originally manufactured as a ML barrel by TC then it is intended for blackpowder and substitute powders designed to replace black powder. The barrels usually say on them if for black powder/substitutes. the common substitutes are Pyrodex, 777, American Pioneer, Shockeys Gold, and of late Blackhorn 209, et al. Using a barrel/breech plug that was designed for "smokey" powder to shoot smokeless powder is not safe. Spend a few dollars, get a barrel designed for smokeless powder and be safe. Safety first is always the 1st rule with firearms. There is plenty of information here to guide you through learning SML. It is not a simple use this powder instead of that powder. Again welcome jyale! Best, 10 ga
