OK, one shot is that progress, maybe. Since last year I have decided that I do not want PVC sabots, and I would prefer a non rifled sabot. Two weeks ago I loaded my rifle but brought the wrong priming module. Tonight about last light I had one try @ 25 yards, I could not see the target center but could see the target in general and just hoped for a hit....drum roll the 200 grain 8mm bullet impacted perfectly. ( yes I knew my target and there was no beyond into the ground ) A nice round hole close to POA. Do I claim any accuracy NO, not at all, it may be a dog. What it does prove is that there MAY be some chance for a high BC bullet in a sabot. Sabot, non rifled proprietary NYLON fully machined. Bullet 8mm 200 grain Nosler Custom Competition, BC 0.550 Load 10 N110 / 60 H322 I have ten more to try sometime. If they end up point first at 100 then perhaps the faster twist rate rifles can shine without the heavyweight bullets and huge doses of powder. If not then it may be just another dud...time will tell edge. Obviously a washed out picture, but the intended POA was the big dot and the 8mm hole is low and right. 3k fps pretty good BC and low recoil is the advantage of sub caliber bullets

Especially out of a .458 The 338 bullets will shine but you will need a much faster twist, if you want max BC and velocity then 1:10 and a 300 grain 338 is very hard to beat. My 1:14 will do the 225NAB 0.338 bullet but barely. 180NAB grain is a slam dunk but the BC is not there. You might as well go with a lighter bullet with a higher BC...but the NAB is a great bullet, IMO. edge.

How do the sabots hold up with the faster barrel twist? Is there much plastic build up when you use your sabots in the faster twist barrels?

Nylon is certainly tough enough to handle fast twists. This go around the sabot has a 0.200 thick base, picked as a first time guess and with a 8mm boat tail bullet should be much more than what is needed. I use a greased fiber wad and do not expect that fouling would be a problem.
The design is kind of radical and until I take a lot more shots I am not willing to say that it is a success, but I am very excited that the bullet was stable without a rifled sabot.
Without the need to rifle it is much more user friendly as it does not need to be indexed or exactly sized for the individual barrel like my PVC sabots need. Nylon is much cheaper and fairly easily injection molded should it work on a more mass scale.

Does it look like a typical sabot?......Concave base with petals or have solid sides? Hope it works out for you and possibly everyone...........and may make you a millionaire:) Richard

Hope it works out for you and possibly everyone...........and may make you a millionaire:) Richard It does not look like a normal sabot, and is bullet specific so a bullet can go only with a specific bullet Right now it is flat based and must used a fiber card under it. IMO, it will most likely only shine with bullets of high BC. Low BC bullets in the 0.400 diameter range are perfectly suited for standard sabots and I see no reason to move from there. I would envision these for use only where you can stabilize a smaller diameter bullet with a much better BC. 0.308 or 0.323 or 0.338 bullets out of a 0.458/0.416 barrel, something where you gain velocity but not the recoil but can still maintain accuracy. With this simplified design they can be machined or molded and should be able to fit most barrels with some sizing qualification... edge.
