Glad you're OK and thanked the Lord. Kinda makes you sick at your stomach to see that.

And yes, I did shoot again that day. There was some pucker factor, but I got over it. Was that before or after you changed your underwear? Real glad your ok. d**n I can only imagine what that must have been like, and I hope to keep it that way.

Wow Luke sorry to hear about this occurrence. Hopefully it is a one and done and you will never be so unfortunate again. Glad you are ok above all else. Seems like you were just satin that you kinda regreted the flutes?

Well dang. Thanks for sharing. And thank God you still have all your appendages. Hard to lose a gun but harder to lose a finger.

Luke,
In the world of people who shoot guns there are two types: ones who have had an accident and those who will. Even the most careful and safety conscious are at risk. In general I think I am one of the most proficient shooters you are likely to ever meet but I had a negligent discharge in Afghanistan a couple of years ago. Like you, for the life of me I cannot tell you how except confidence overrode safe practice. Like you, I stood up and said what happened then got crucified for it. Luckily here, the truth can set you free. When it happens the best you can hope for is nobody gets injured and that you are smart enough to learn from the incident and become better for it. I diligently changed from very proficient but cavalier to flawlessly proficient and compulsively safe. Some lessons come the hard way.
When it comes to fluting I have never seen the point. I view it as a cosmetic appeal with no benefit but rather potential weakness that (at best) will affect thermal expansion and at worst cause failure. There are lots of people who do it without ill effect but I think the money is better spent elsewhere.

Luke...........Glad you are OK! Now to my opinion along with airbornike and a few others...........The FLUTES---------Pretty, but useless! Yes, they will shave a few ounces off the weight by not much more. I have heard people say that the barrel is just as strong with the flutes.............to that I say a BIG BS! ANY time you remove metal, you weaken the structure. I NEVER recommend or encourage any one I build a rifle for to use a fluted barrel.......Period. Some insist but that is their problem. There is no doubt that had you not double loaded it, all would be fine with the fluted barrel.........but.............."FECE" OCCURS" as it did in your case. In all probability if you were shooting a HEAVY contour barrel such as mine or those of Earnhardt, that probably would not have occurred! That being said, I am glad the light of the Lord was shinning upon you! And yes, thanks for have ing the B---s to admit it..............Been there done that! It will definitely keep other on their toes. Richard

Better man than me Luke, no way I could have got behind a gun after that ordeal. Glad you came away unscathed. Like the others, my first one had flutes, and that will be my last.
Bummer, that was one of the best looking builds I have seen.

Glad to hear you are OK! Our life and limbs are a little harder to replace than a barrel and stock. YOU ARE SO LUCKY!! I think I would stay away the fluted barrels that are thinner than a bull barrel. Thanks for sharing this with us!

glad your ok luke. a couple of years ago I left my ramrod in the barrel of my savage and shot it out. still have a nasty scare in my forehead from the scope. now I double check everything before I pull the trigger. luckily my barrel is ok. I also check the witness mark when I load. it seems once we do something like that I makes you real cautious after. play safe. LOU.

Glad your ok. Sorry for the loss of a great looking gun. From what it sounds you saved the scope. Like others said I avoid flutes I can't help but think it weakens a barrel? Thank you for posting!

First Luke glad you are OK. Second, glad you had the guts to post this as this is the season most ML will be shot/sighted in for deer season. I have never double loaded(YET). Always try to shoot by myself, wife says it is because I am an aXXhole. Always set out one powder charge, one sabot, one bullet and one primer at the time. I have messed up once and just placed 11 grains of N110 in a duplex load and forgot the main charge of 322. Bullet still hit the target, skipped about 15 yards in front of target and then hit paper. I load my hunting bag with small Zippy bags, each with one powder charge, one sabot/bullet/primer. I try and keep things simple as possible. Again thanks for posting your mishap as most on the board will be sighting in for the season and this will help all of us to be safer.

I like the rest of the board would like to thank you for posting, sometimes we get busy and leave a load in a gun to long thinking we will be using it the next hunt which never happens. It is a wake up call and could happen to anyone, I'm glad God was with you and you were man enough to share.

Luke glad your're ok!
I have the Pacnor Sendaro, unflutted. I hope it was from a double load and not a metal failure due to contour.
Also, did the breech plug hold?

Dang, just dang.
You are living right, I'm glad you are ok.
That's just plain scary. I was thinking of building an ultra-light, you just changed my mind. Think I'll just get into better shape and carry the extra weight.
Just dang.

Like everybody else... Thank God you're ok... Guns can be replaced... Awhile back I posted on this board that I shot a double powder one bullet load out of my pac-nor Sendero barrel.. 140gns H4198 with no damage to my gun..Only thing hurt was my pride..Looks to me that your's was a double bullet and powder load... Lucky that we learned our lessons without paying the big price. Zen

Very glad you didn't get hurt. I honestly don't know how especially when looking at the forearm. I think it shook me up more, I couldn't stand to keep looking at it.
It reminded how bad it hurt when I bulged one shooting prone and it about knocked me out.
