Got it done this afternoon. Crawled for about 2 and a half hours over dead flat terrain. Luckily the grass was tall enough I was somewhat concealed. I was prepared to take a 300 yard shot, but just couldnt get the buck to present an opportunity. So I crawled closer. And closer. And closer. And he just kept facing dead away from me. I wanted to save the cape as he was a very respectable goat that I wanted to mount, so I really didnt want to take a neck shot. So I kept inching forward. Cactus thorns riddled my hands and knees. Then I peeked up to see where he was at. Now he was about 200 yards but still no shot through the 40 does surrounding him. Then I heard that dreaded noise of a fawn alarmed. They started to trot off so my last reserve trick came out of the bag. I hunkered down and threw up the montana buck antelope decoy. They literally ran at me. The buck was fixing to charge and I didnt want to experience that so I turned my gun and let him have it at 56 yards. The 290 tez did its job. A little too well. You could put a folgers coffee can in the entrance on the shoulder. The exit looked as if he was shot with 00 buck from all the bone fragments leaving the opposite side of his body. He never took a step, actually the bullets energy knocked him backwards. It destroyed the cape but I have meat in the freezer now!
