Hey guys. I have a RemPac .45, 26" barrel and I have only shot saboted bullets from it for the last couple of years. I am getting tired of blowing the occasional sabot and want to try the sabotless game. I plan to try bore riders first and I got a .459 push through die that sizes the bullet just under bore diameter and I can easily knurl the bullets to get a snug fit. So here are my questions: 1) I have some 250gr TEZs that I want to try. In looking at the board and it looks like solid coppers don't do very well as bore riders without a duplex load and a fast booster such as red dot. Can anyone suggest a load that is known to be good with this bullet? Can I boost with 4759 or is that too slow? 2) I was thinking to also try some XTPs. Is the .452, 240gr XTP mag a good bullet to use? It seems like more folks are using the 250gr more often, but I was hoping to use the mag version for hunting.
Thanks much.
Jim

Some anneal the bullets that soften them enough to be used as land riders.

Did you read this thread of mine? Look at the 290 TEZ load..........No sizing necessart and will shoot MOA? You might try going back a lot of pages and look for my name and you will see a lot of information on sabot less. If in doubt, send me a PM and I will give you my phone number. I know 45omega has shot some impressive groups at 100 and 200 yards with the Barnes 250 TEZ ahead of 10/50 SR4749/IMR4198. His was with a McGowan though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have SR4759 and H4198 so I think that I will try the 10/50 combo first. I will also try to get some faster booster powder per some of Richard's loads. I am going to stick with the 250TEZ for now because I have some and it seems that I can get a good fit with the sizing die that I have. With knurling, how tight of a fit are folks trying to get? As tight as possible I assume? Also, what other ~250gr bullets are worth trying sabotless? Was looking at the bonded shockwave today - anybody having luck with them?

I've had good results with the 250 TEZ's and 250 SST (FTX) sabotless in my Pac-Nors. Both 10/58,4759/H4198 and 11/59, N110/H322 have been accurate and deadly on deer. These are going around 2700-2725fps. I like to size them at .449 smooth die and then slightly knurl them to a snug fit. Both have been very effective out to 300+ yards..... Good luck Zen

I don't know if your shooting the super-plug, but if you're planning on shooting the vent eaters you may want to check into it.

My plug is a vent liner plug so thanks for the warning. I am going to start with the 4759 and see what happens. I have a .459 die from Doughty Enterprises and knurled up, the 250 TEZs are a snug fit in my barrel. Have some .060 veggie wads to use also.

I use the Dry Wool Wad with the Barnes 250 gr TEZ. I would shoot a Duplex.

Jim You can use 4759 with the 250 tez. I shot this group last Friday at 100 yrds using a fed 209, a .060 veggie wad and a loose 2 finger loading pressure. I have never shot a group this good and probably never will again. I had been shooting a duplex of 10/ 48 to 50 of 4759/ H4198 with good results. The 12/48 4759/H4198 seems to shine. After making a scope adjustment to get vertical and 2 inches high shot 2 in the same hole and out of powder so no pic on that.
