The 700ML I bought came with a set of one piece Tally rings/bases. Building a .45 Rem/PAC conversion. Are these rings worthy/ dependable enough to use on this rig? Never used them before. Opinions appreciated. Tim

All I use are Talley LW or Nightforce. The Talley rings are strong and light. I have never had an issue with Talley in the 15 years or so I have used their stuff.

I guess that makes the deal on the SS 700ML in great shape for only $200 that much sweeter;)

I started using these a few years ago and have never had one move. The good Lord blessed me with hands like a gorilla so I have trouble loading rifles with one piece rails, with these Talleys the top is nice and open to get my fat fingers in there lol.

I've got some on a Winchester model 70 and a Savage Pacnor 45 muzzleloader and both work great. The only negative is they will mark a scope up while I've never hsd s Warne Maxima ring ever put any mark of any kind on a scope.

The Talleys will leave marks if you don't lap them.
I have them on several rifles and they have never moved.
The DNZ mounts have never moved on me either and require no lapping.

I just recently pulled a Trijicon off of my NULA with Talley LW rings and there were no ring marks. I also pulled a V-XIII off a custom slug gun a while back to move it to a NULA .257Wby Mag and it was just fine too. It might be how I go about mounting though; I described it in the BEAST thread. The Talley steel rings so always leave a mark on my scopes though no matter what I do to attempt to prevent it.

I don't know freak.
The first set of talley LW I had scratched the crap out of my Minox. The next two set I lapped and they were fine.
I'll check out your thread.

By no means is my way the only or best way. Lapping is a viable option and I have a friend who use a ring reamer. There are different ways to skin this cat.
I did have a set I had to lap but it was due to the receiver being out of spec. The mounting holes had to be fixed and the bases bedded but the alignment bars still wouldn't quite match up so I lapped them until there was no binding. On the NULA receivers which are well QC'd I have not had to do anything other than bed them. I have a friend who builds custom guns and does a lot of Cerakote. Since he blasts the actions prior to finishing he mounts the rings to a piece of bar stock and laps them to the receiver but I would say that is a case for guns that will be refinished only. I have never attempted that though; he did it on a custom .257 Wby Mag for me once and I didn't notice it marred the scopes. That is why I think it usually has to do with dimensional issues with actions.
I wonder if anyone has used a 1-piece Talley LW for a gun like the Encore and can comment on whether those marred the tube? I would say then it is a design issue but I have been very happy with Dave Talley and Garry Turner for the last decade and a half.

I have never had mine leave a mark on a scope but I always lap rings in no matter what. It usually only takes a few minutes with most the higher quality and I am sure many don't need it but get it anyway. To my way of thinking it's worth the effort for a gun that may last me a lifetime (if I don't sell it) Presently I have more of the Talley one piece lightweights than all other rings combined. I have had 1 problem when I stripped a screw removing caps after years of use. The aluminum and steel don't play well together when the aluminum oxidizes. I now anti seize the screws.
To the OP. Great buy on your gun. Wish you the best of luck with it.

Thanks Line. I built a rem/PAC 700 CF that shoots great. Don't see any reason why this one won't do the same. I have all components here except on and was hoping it would arrive today. Looks like it's gonna be Monday now
