Wow, the weather in iowa this weekend was breath taking. Lows in the 40's and highs in the 60's with lots of sun and hardly any wind. Definitely giving me shooting bug. I haven't done much shooting this summer. So didn't feel great on the bench, but started to feel pretty good by the end. Also shooting a new scope this year. The 2.5-10x32 NF NXS. I think it really completes the look of my rig and balances it out well. So far, I like it a lot. 9# 5oz as pictured. Shots 1-5 & 9 were with 70gr of H4198 and 310ABP. This load shot a lot lower than my previous load and first shot was on a clean bore, and I ended up skipping it into the bottom half the target. After coming up a couple MOA, shot an OK group. I'm surprised #4 was as close as it was as I really pulled it. Shot #9 is after a scope adjust and with the magneto speed installed. After the 5 shot group with the 310APB, I moved over to the 327CEB bullet. Results were not promising. This was annealed, so they sized pretty easy. Fit was probably too loose, but with the 0.040" bushing ignition was still ok. I also shot a group last week with a much tighter fit without annealing and the group was no better. People have shown that the solids will shoot, but I'm not sure they're worth the effort since it's so easy to get BE's and MH's to shoot. (Note the chrono speeds in bottom left should ready 6, 7, 8.)

Honest and informative report, thanks for sharing. The weather has definitely been revving up the hunting drive and the drive to just get outside! Oh, still love the look of that gun too!

That's the 42mm? Looks a lot like my 32mm. Either way, it looks good on the gun. I had wished they would make a 42mm with parallax adjustment and FFP. As soon as I ordered my 32mm they announced the 42mm. Great optic though, you will love it. What adjustments and reticle did you choose? Looks like MOA turrets.

I thought about the 42mm, but really wanted to go compact on this build. Now I just need to remember to run off the illuminated reticle when I use it.

I think you'll like it. I shoot the MOAR reticle in my 32mm and it is great. I haven't shot it or my 24mm MIL-R past 700m but the reticles and turrets have been spot on. It's a lot of glass in a small package.

Nice report Luke, I miss being in my home state in September. Don't miss it in January I'm hoping to come up and try and get a buck tag this year. But Iowa is proud of their deer and puts a beat down on my wallet with all the fees and licenses required for non-residents. You'd think I'd be grandfathered in lol

There is no doubt that the weather here in Iowa has been fall like. Did a bunch of shooting with some friends over the weekend also and a bit of tree rat huting. Just a perfect weather to be outside.
It has me thinking about deer season already. Need to get the ML back out and dialed in. thinking about trying to do the sabotless this this year and get dialed in for longer range shots since they took away rifle hunting.

Rambler,
Yes, we're proud of our deer tags. I think I would pick Kansas, Illinois, and maybe Nebraska for a whitetail hunt before I would head to Iowa as an out of stater.

I would consider those options except I have a good friend that owns several farms in Iowa out by Blairstown. He's invited me up every year for the past 10 years. His wife's family also has a farm out by the Amana's where they do their late doe hunt.
Can't beat an already scouted area with enclosed deer stands already in place

Not sure about whitetail for Nebraska however I haven't focused on finding anything good since I'm learning how to mule deer hunt. Biggest problem in Nebraska is getting permission on private ground and if you think you can kill something big on public you'll need to put in some scouting to find the right place. Most of the places by Omaha are hit really hard.

Last year I shot my first muley (5x5) this year hoping to improve from last year.
Zen put me on one last year this year I'm on my own, so I'll probably shoot a dink. Lol Zen is a great guy and couldn't have found a better hunting partner.
Going antelope hunting this Saturday hoping I put a big one down again Zen is my guide he's got me all worked up with the reports he keeps sending me! Hope I sleep this week!

Luke, great shooting! How'd you like the Magnetospeed?
78riverrat, do they still allow guys to use horses on the State land in Nebraska? One year we were out there we saw more hunters on horses than deer. 2003 I think.

This year will be November rifle season with the ml. Don't believe I'll see hunters on horse back but not sure.

Luke,
Your rifle is about as good as it gets, nice.

Luke, Your rifle is about as good as it gets, nice. Mike Thanks Mike. I think, in hind sight, I might have gone with straight fluting instead of the interrupted, but it certainly makes it unique. And as far as handling and how it shoots, I couldn't be happier! Josh, I do like the MS. I don't use it a lot because it does get a little tedious attaching and then loosening. But it's nice always getting a reading.
