I was wondering who all cast their own lead bullets. Where can one get a mould of .451 or .452 diam. that is proper for a sabot? Would it be necessary to size them to proper size? Am looking at flat nose or hollow points bullets as to a possible bullet style.

I cast with a mold from Accurate molds in a 300grn sabot specific mold. So far, it shoots great from TC and Knight. Im planning on hunting with it this year I ordered it for .451, but with soft lead, it drops at abt .453 (.452+) I resize them to .452 and they drop about 308 grn Ive dug a few out of the hill behind the range and they end up one big flat round This is the .45-300s

I cast for ML and shoot pretty much what you see here. they are good and accurate enough for hunting at most ML ranges. I cast mine of COWW and soft lead in 1-1 ratio. Good terminal performance but I use them mostly for practice. I don't need to size as the BCR sabots will accommodate about any of the bullets up to .458. Soft lead is really not useable at SML speeds as you get severs bullet fragmentation, cratering and grenade effect as speeds over fps. 2000+, ie at close range or faster velocity. To use faster fps you need a tougher alloy or drop speed to smoker speeds. The attached forum is the place to go for cast boolit information. The danger of poisioning from casting lead is mostly from handling corroded lead barehanded or eating, drinking or smoking while casting. The greatest danger from casting is making a mistake and getting a visit from "The Tinsel Fairy" which is very bad. Best, 10 ga castboolits.gunloads.com/forum.php

I used the Lee TL452-230-TC cast bullets in my .50 cal Optima Pro V1 with Thompson Yellow Sabots. The only reason I used those was that it is what I load and shoot in my 1911 45ACP pistol. Here is a group I shot while testing Alliant Black MZ. Group on left was a sight in. Group on right was after windage adjustment. I was more accurate at 100 yards with BH209 which meters much better, but it costs about double of BlackMZ. No need to size prior to loading 2-3 mils will not affect loading. The plastic should compress enough.
