I didn't want to steer Jeff's thread to far off topic so I'm starting a new one. Anyway you guys got me seriously thinking about these scopes. I currently run a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 on my build and I have zero complaints with it. I really do like it but I want more magnification without sacrificing glass quality moving from the Zeiss. I do not have the budget to step up to a HD5 3-15x42 like I would like to do. Members on here that have always giving me great advice are recommending these Weavers. But I can not find any specs on them (mainly FOV?). The particular model I am leaning towards is this one- www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=WE&prodID=WE800707&prodTitle=Weaver 4-16x50 Classic Extreme Riflescope Illuminated German#4 Reticle Matte Anyone have the specs and any other thoughts if this is a good idea?

Forgot one more thing... Lets say your batteries go dead on a hunt, is the reticle still useable?

I have one of the original close out 2.5x10x50 with IR G#4. LOVE IT! Clearest scope I've ever looked through, there may be some out there more clear but I can't imagine needing anything more than this scope gives me.
It's an absolute tank. So glad I got in on the original purchase. If you search at the old dougs board there is a ton of info about them including low light testing against other high end scopes, they held their own and then some.
Rossman knows everything there is to know about these, and still gives them his recommendation. Probably one of the best scope deals out there.

Center dot is the only thing that's illuminated, and even it's still visible without being turned on.

Remember, the Classic Extremes are 30mm you may need rings too.

IMO, if the classic extreme's are anywhere near as good as the Super Slam Euro's, you won't be disappointed. Ken or Greg may be able to give you a comparison of the two, but I reall like the Super Slam Euro. Mine is the 4-20x50 and it was money well spent, even as bad as it hurt... I have no regrets.

Rambler, Natchez is the only place I know you can still get a WCE. But you have to remember that they will probly be the Philippines made models. Someone told me that they knew of a guy getting a 8-32 earlier this year that was still one of the Japanese made models.
I've looked thru a couple of the Philippines made WCEs and they still look pretty darn good. Never been able to do a side-by-side with a Japanese model.

I already bought a Nikon Pro Staff 5 3.5-14 X 50. It's still within the 30 day return window but SportOptics charges 15% restock fee or I'd return it and get this model.

These are not the same scope as the original classic extremes that several on this board have. I have talked with people that have both the original and these ones and they said that while they are still a good scope, they are not as good as the original classics.

One of the members here liked them so well he traded straight up a good Leupold for the WCE.

I've had two Nikons go bad on the same ML before 50 shots were fired.. I now refuse to use any nikon scope on any of my rifles. I would return it while you still can. Although Nikon will replace or repair it,, it's a pain to do and will usually brake the day before season. The ML I'm speaking of now wears a Weaver buck commander scope 4-16 it think, and has 500 plus rounds on it... Jeff

Jeff Its two days beyond the 30 day return window so I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Before I went with Nikon I poured over this forum, other ML smokeless forums and many other reviews in general. The reviews were almost all very positive.
If it goes bad I'll send it back and go from there.

I wouldn't worry too much about your Nikon scope breaking any more than any other brand.... I've heard of all of them breaking at one time or another...Personally I've put over 2000 shots on three different Nikons over the last seven years and never had one go bad yet.. Two of the three were $200 Buckmasters and the other is a Monarch... Everybody has got their own personal favorite..Just bought my first Vortex Viper.. It seems like a decent scope so far... we'll see in 500 shots how it holds up. Zen

I have a couple Super Slams (non Euro) I liked them so much that I put a 2-10x50 on a build for a friend that is a Leupold lover only to test shoot. He paid no attention to the scope until he looked through it. He pulled away and said what scope is this. I said Weaver Super Slam and he said how much are they? When I said I paid $300, he thought it was used or something. That scope went with the gun and is still on it. Another great buy from Natchez.

What do you think of the Weaver 6-24 50mm with "dual-x" illuminated reticle? And Rossman40, don't just say it is better than a Countersniper.

Zeiss is closing out the Conquest line and going with the Conquest HD and the Japanese made Terra so if you want a Conquest you better jump now. The 3-9X40 Conquest will be a thing of the past
I was thinking on getting a WCE in 6-24 or 8-32 just for range work. At $350 they are cheaper then a Sightron or Vortex Viper. With the WCE the inner crosshairs are pretty fine and you can loose them in the shadows while hunting. That's where the illuminated dot comes in handy. I've only used a illuminated reticle on two shots while hunting in the past 10 years but it allowed me to take a shot that I couldn't have without.
The Super Slams are a very good scope and a lot of bang for the buck when you can get them at a good price. About the only drawback is that since they are built like a tank, they are heavy. With the 5X erectors you can go with a 3-15 or 4-20 and still have the wide Field Of View (FOV) at the lower magnifications and then still have the capability to really zoom in. The regular Super Slams are 1" tube and the Euros are 30mm. Trying to catch a Euro on sale (less the $500) is tough and my favorite, the 4-20X50 with the illuminated reticle hardly ever goes on sale.
We're coming up on SHOT show time which is when the makers usually announce new models and major retailers will want to dump inventory to make room so be looking for deals popping up mainly after November.

I followed Ken's recommendation on the SS Euro, and as always he was spot on. IMO, if he recommends something, you can bank on it and have little to no worries.

I have a WCE in 2.5-10x56 on its way from Natchez, when it gets here I'll be able to do a side by side comparison with the SS Euro and the vortex viper HS. Hoping for the best and betting it's gonna be a lot of scope for $289.

I know I probably spend entirely to much time deciding on scopes but there not cheap and I have to do it right.

I received the Weaver CE. I'll just say, for the money, I doubt you'll be disappointed. I know I'm not. It's a very nice scope for under $300!

Well you guys were right again. I did not purchase one for myself yet but my father called asking about a new scope for his AR for coyote hunting. I ordered him a Classic Extreme 2.5-10x40 with the German #4 and it just got delivered to me. Wow!!!! about sums it up. Very clear and very well built. Now granted this is a first opinion from looking out my office window but a good first impression. Ill mount it up for him this weekend and test it some more.
Thanks

I've got over 200 rounds threw mine along with a booner antelope and a nice doe with mine and it's still holding a zero. Shot some heavy recoiling 327 mh 300 my 310 APB and 300 SST all running over 2500 f/s along with 250 SST shooting 2900+. Going out again this weekend hope to get a booner whitetail!
