Posted on the classifieds looking for a complete rig or barrel for a Rem CF but had no luck with response so.....Talked to Luke at Arrowhead and he has everything I need in stock for a Rem 700ML build. Searched high and low for 700ML action again with no luck... until today I remembered a neighbor that had one. After a quick call I bought a stainless 700 ML in great condition for $200. I already know most of my components and only need to decide on whether to spend the extra $150 for the fluted barrel. (Opinions?) This was a short notice decision because I want to build my dad a .45 by last Saturday in October for muzzleloader season. I built a Rem 700CF build a couple of years ago and its a dream to shoot. Good chance I will sell this one after season and build another CF before next year. Here's my list of parts: 700ML action Bolt nose kit from Luke, 25" Pacnor 1 in 22 stainless barrel Hogue full aluminum bedding block stock model #70012. .186 recoil lug and a rifle basix trigger se at 2 pounds. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. And will probably need some help on headspacing since Ive only done the Petes plug design. Thanks in advance guys. Tim Baldwin

I don't like flutes and would not spend $150 on cosmetics if you intend to move the gun after season and do a CF build.

You may not be so quick to want to sell this once you get it completed, it's going to make a sweet little rig and I'm sure it will do everything that you ask of it and do it well.. You could get in touch with myers129 from here on the board about putting it together or helping you out if Luke isn't doing the work, I'm sure Cole may be able to help you out with a fine job and in a hurry.

I struggled with fluting....for about 30seconds... And then decided to do it. I don't plan on resale...and if I do then I feel the fluting will enhance that. BUT.... My barrel is a 25inch pacnor #7 taper...so it is pretty chubby...lol. But it's also a bit of a security blanket having all that extra meat Good luck and stay safe Drop

Thanks guys . My CF build has the fluted #7 and Kampfeld did oversize bolt handle and spiral fluted the bolt. Don't have time for all that on this short order.

Getting your action for $200 was a great start! I just sold a bunch of take off tupperwares on eBay for $20 a piece and usually can get rid of barrels at 30-50 depending on how fast you want to get rid of it. That will bring your action down to a great nab from the neighbor! You will like that ml build just as much as your cf when you are done and it will probably stock around and harvest many deer for you!

I would vote no on fluting a button rifle barrel. And take that150 saved and put towards a good muzzle break. Your dad appreciate the reduced recoil.

If Luke has a Brux I would spend the money on the Brux instead of fluting. It's not that Pacnor are bad, but why not try the barrel they say is equal to a Krieger? Then report on it for us.

I have a buddy that ordered a Brux in 28" for a 700ML build he is putting together, I am waiting to see how it shoots compared to my two ML's. We can compare drop at 600yds to see which is flatter shooting.

Same twist, same length., where you will see the difference is in average group size..(maybe). For flatter shooting the barrel would have to increase the BC of the bullet and although Brux is good, they ain't magic . Jeff...

No but these barrels are a little heavier and a couple inches longer than what I have. In my barrel I will only go to 70 GRS of powder because its a standard size Savage barrel, his will be a 1.20" barrel at 28" so it should handle a little more and be somewhat faster.
