I have a CVA Wolf 50 cal. inline rifle I have shot Powerbelt bullets in it. My question is , What would be a good .451 dia, or .452 dia , 230 or 240 gr. bullet to buy in bulk? Hornaday makes an XTP bullet in that caliber and weight. It is made to reload pistols. Is this the same bullet used with a sabot ? I have found a source of sabots already on line. Thanks for all of your help. Vearl

yes on the xtp,id buy a small pack local and try them before ordering a large pack. they shoot good in my buddys wolf but all rifles like different loads. powder is where to find your accuracy after finding a bullet that will group decent. using a scale vs a tube will make your shots more consistent

The question is not easy to answer but if you are going to use the Hornaday XTP bullet I would go with a .452 250 gr. non mag bullet. They can be purchased for something like $25.00 for 100 of them. As far as sabots are concerned it depends on the size of your bore. Many CVA's have tight bores and the original black MMP sabots may be too difficult to load. You could try crushed rib sabots but only your gun will be able to tell you what it likes. I'm glad you want to get away from using PBs as they are expensive and at least in my opinion not as effective as Barns XBPs (.451) or Hornady XTPs. The only advantage is that they are easy to load if a follow up shot is required. The bottom line is that there are many good bullets out there but only your gun can tell you what it likes.

Imo if want the best order a pack of 24 barnes 250 tez bullets with sabots from nathcez they come with blue sabots which are made by mmp sabots and are hph24 which are for tight bore guns . then order pack of hph12 direct from mmp sabots for large bore now your ready to test. Once you get best combo you can buy bulk bullets and sabots. Older wolf had large .502 bore and like hph12 sabots they load at .508 .Newer wolf had .498 bore and like hph 24 sabots they load at .504. I find about .005 squeeze is good place to be.

Check with Luke at ARROWHEAD Sporting Goods...he sells sample packs of sabots just for your situation....if you find a combo that's almost tight enough then you could knurl your bullet some to increase its diameter for just the right fit......

I have 110 bullets he sent that are scheduled to arrive on Friday (tomorrow I guess, it is September isn't it?). One is a 10 package of Barnes 290gr Flat base, which I plan to try in the Ultimate. Because its always shot a .452" bullet better, I'm hoping knurling the .451" will provide me what I'm looking for.
