well saturday 8-30-14 i had the opportunity to spend the day at hankins custom rifle with a challenge of my own. ive been in the process of trying to gather up parts to build a second custom knight to shoot sub powder and land rider. after waiting for my custom barrel to be delivered ups lost it during shipment. so missed being able to shoot ky challenge so i went as spectator with my brother to shoot and it was worth every minute. i seen alot of great ideals and some true masterpieces of custom guns. i left shoot with my wheels turning. so in last few weeks trying to figure out how to get another barrel and make ready for nmlra nationals sept 13-21 in friendship. so last week i found a cut rifle barrel with specs that would work and could have in 3 days so i contacted my local machinist to see if could get it done and he was covered up with work. so i spoke with jeff at hankins rifle friday night 8-29-14 and discussed my need and design ive been using. he said bring it down saturday 8-30-14 and see what we can do with it. i arrived at noon saturday with a fluted blank , unthreaded action, bolt assy, custom breech plug, timney trigger and stock in a pile and some plans scratched out on paper. we talked it over about 30 minutes and he went to work. ive spent 30 years working in all types mechanical applications and theres a few men that were blessed with a true gift and i can say jeff hankins is one of them. he may be bold but he knows guns and true machinist. so in 8 hours i left with a one of a kind knight custom 45 which im confident there is not another one like it on the planet. ready to go home and pillar bed stock and test. got home at 1 am 8-31-14 decided to start pillars and bedding stock and at 4 am she was done and curing. so at 4pm 8-31-14 i cleaned her up and bore sighted scope . smooth formed some ballistic extremes to .4505 and headed to range fired first 3 shoots ever from gun at 100 yds group measured .390 . load 300 ballistic extreme, .060 wad , 100 gr weight blackhorn 209, federal 209a ignition and .030 bushing and flame channel .156x .680 needless to say im beyond happy. thanks jeff and thanks board for all the knowledge . 2 yrs ago shooting a remington genisis at 2 moa accuracy with blackhorn .to a sub .500 moa gun and nmlra inline aggregate national champion. this my 5th gun build in 2 yrs and all because of connections and friends made thru board. thanks and god bless.

Wow nice story about Jeff fixing you up on short notice, however those of us that were fortunate enough to make the Kentucky challenge and meet Jeff in person would not be surprised at his willing ness to help you out. Bestil that is one fine looking rifle. Is that a Hankins muzzle brake? Good luck at the nmlra nationals. I hope the wind treats you better than it treated me in Kentucky LoL.

That's sharp looking and shoots well too. That was good of Jeff to hook you up for a match. I know the feeling of being in a bind leading into a match and and having someone lift a weight of your shoulders. Good luck in Friendship.

I wonder if I can buy all the "lost" barrels from ups! Nice rifle and good luck with it! Myers..... I already have a contract with UPS to send me all their lost packages that are in round tubes 26 inches or longer... When I called Fed-X they said some hillbilly in TN. was already getting all their lost packages.. Maybe you can hook up with USPS.. Jeff

No way I'm calling the postmaster! She is a _____, guess I'll buy them straight from the man. Just don't get your tv's from FedEx and you'll be fine!
Nice work on the build Jeff, I'm sure you've made a lifetime friend or at least he owes you one!
